Blake Griffin Highlights: NBA Must Make Griffin An All-Star

Ethan NorofJan 23, 2011

Blake Griffin is the real deal.

The show continued on Saturday evening for the exciting young rookie, as he dropped 30 points and tied career-highs in both rebounds and assists with 18 and eight, respectively.

To further highlight just how impressive the uber athletic Griffin performed, he shot 9-10 from the free throw line, and even nailed the only three point attempt that he took in the contest.

Griffin hasn't just been incredible in his rookie season. He's been extraordinary.

Despite most casual fans noting him for his highlight reel dunks like the one that can be seen right here, Griffin does much more than just throw it down around the rim.

With season averages of 22.8 points per game, 12.9 rebounds, and 3.5 assists, Griffin is behind just Amar'e Stoudemire and Dirk Nowitzki for power forwards in the scoring department. Additionally, he is fourth in the league in rebounding, behind just Kevin Love, Dwight Howard, and Zach Randolph.

His free throw percentage checks in at a pathetic 61.7 percent, but frankly who cares? He's actually shot it much better from the line (over 70 percent in his last ten games) as of late, a trend that should continue.

As he continues to grow deeper into his NBA career, he will have to prove more valuable on the defensive end as well as he's currently averaging less than a steal and a block per game, but the impact he's had on an otherwise downtrodden Clippers franchise is remarkable.

Emerging both as a leader on the court and reportedly as one in the locker room as well, Griffin has brought together a Clippers team with the help of new head coach Vinny Del Negro to create a culture in a basketball team that was without one for an extended period of time.

Some have argued, and will surely continue to do so, that rookies don't belong in the All-Star game. And while sometimes that argument is very applicable, Griffin is an unique talent who's skills extend far beyond any type of limits or boundaries.

The most athletic big man that the NBA has seen in quite some time, Griffin is among the most exciting players in the league, if not the most exciting, and the league, its fans, coaches, general managers, and most importantly, Commissioner David Stern, would be insane not to include him in the game.

He is the most marketable item that the league has had access to since the rise of Kevin Durant, and Griffin fever is spreading rampantly throughout Los Angeles and into other parts of the world.

The Clippers have found a legitimate franchise player in every sense of the word, and they're going to ensure that he suits up for anyone but "that other team" in LA.

But now that the Clippers have beaten both the Lakers and the Heat, Blake has the rest of the world watching with extreme interest just exactly what is brewing with the Clippers.

It's bigger than big.

It's Blake.
