Miami Heat: Big 3 Scary This Year, but Scarier in 2011-2012

Thomas GaliciaJan 19, 2011

I went to my second Miami Heat home game of the season yesterday, but unfortunately it did not wind up like the first one I went to.

With Chris Bosh injured, the Heat lost by four points to the Atlanta Hawks, 93-89.

The defense, a strong suit for Miami, was there partially due to Joel Anthony, known affectionately as "The Warden." Anthony gave a yeoman's effort with 16 rebounds, three blocks and one steal while shutting down Hawks center Al Horford (six points, nine rebounds in 21 minutes.)

Anthony should be a contender in the NBA's Most Improved Player race, as he has transformed into a defensive stopper despite the fact that he is undersized.

But what amazes me about yesterday's game was the fact that they lost by so little, and had a chance to win, without Chris Bosh. The same Chris Bosh that was much maligned to start the season and that should have been traded, according to many.

It was obvious to any Heat fan that Bosh was key. He is Heat's low-post threat, and had he played yesterday, the Heat might have easily won.

Bosh opens up the paint for LeBron and Wade thanks to his improved, low-post offensive game and smooth midrange jumper.

He has also shown the ability to hit threes when called upon.

The scarier question for the rest of the league is, what would this Heat team be like if everyone was healthy?

Mike Miller is still working himself back into game shape and Haslem looks to be out for the playoffs.

Everyone could be healthy in this year's playoffs, which would be dreaded by other teams.

But more likely, expect this next season.

(Note: this only applies if there is no lockout next season.)
