NBA Trade Rumors: 10 Players Who Could Lead New York Knicks To Title Run
The New York Knicks are on the road to getting back the city.
The roster additions of Amar'e Stoudemire and Raymond Felton have been felt in full force as the Knicks are 22-16, the sixth best record in the Eastern Conference, so far this season.
Both players are playing at All-Star levels and have been better than anticipated.
The closest competitors for the six spot in the East have losing records.
New York is still the center of attention in the Carmelo Anthony hunt though and the debate rages on if he really can be the answer in bringing back a title to New York.
Aside from Melo though, the Knicks have other holes they could look to fill as well, such as a backup point guard for Raymond Felton, another center to help Amar'e down low, and maybe even a perimeter guy.
Here is a look at 10 players that could help the Knicks bring back a championship in New York.
10. Anthony Morrow, G, New Jersey Nets
1 of 10
The 25-year old New Jersey Nets sharp-shooting guard would be an ideal shooter in D'Antoni's system.
The 6'5" sniper is a 46 percent field goal shooter so far this season, and 41 percent behind the arc.
He averages 13 points in 34 minutes of play and has been consistently dangerous throughout his career as a shooter.
Not much of a threat defensively though, he came from a Golden State system that did not preach much defense either.
9. Chris Kaman, C, Los Angeles Clippers
2 of 10
The 28-year old Clippers center does have his injury woes, but could be a good fit along side Amar'e in the Knick front court.
Kaman is a former All-Star who hustles at both ends of the court, has a good semblance of an offensive game, and would compliment Amar'e with his rebounding and shot-blocking presence.
Kaman would be under contract through the end of next season potentially giving the Knicks a good look at whether or not he could fit long term alongside Stoudemire.
Again, his health could be an issue, but he would be the type of presence the Knicks could use.
He would not be an easy pry from the Clippers though.
8. Andre Iguodala, G-F, Philadelphia 76ers
3 of 10
Iguodala is an extremely versatile player who brings everything to the table for the Knicks.
A good third scoring option, Igguodala has logged a lot of minutes over the past few years in Philadelphia.
He plays good defense, and despite the Knicks lack of emphasis on this, could be a boost in that department.
He can rebound, move the ball around, and has experience bringing the ball up as well. He's obviously not a conventional point, but he has experience playing like it and could be an alternative answer to a backup point guard.
7. Marcus Camby, C, Portland Trail Blazers
4 of 10
Marcus Camby has been in New York before and would not mind coming back.
At, 36-years old though, he will only want to play for a contending team if he gets traded.
In 29 minutes this season he is averaging six points, 11.5 rebounds, and two blocks per contest.
In short, he does everything that would be needed to help protect Amar'e.
He's certainly a very capable and serviceable player at his age.
6. Carmelo Anthony, F, Denver Nuggets
5 of 10
There is no denying Carmelo Anthony's ability to score the basketball.
He wants to be in New York and a large portion of the fans, and the Knick office, want Melo in New York too.
The problem, aside from finding a third team willing to help out, and beating out the Nets' offer, is giving up a plethora of young talent on a team that is playing well together.
The Knicks may already have a few of the young pieces they want to keep - Wilson Chandler, Danilo Gallinari, and Landry Fields - and may not want to blow all that up.
Anthony is not going to help on the defensive end, a place where the Knicks do need help, but he and Amar'e could be great together in bringing the Knicks back to prominence.
5. Samuel Dalembert, C, Sacramento Kings
6 of 10
The Kings big man would be the ideal type of center to allow Amar'e a move back to power forward.
The 6'11" center is only averaging 20 minutes per game this season but snatches up 6.5 rebounds and almost two blocks per coming off the bench.
In New York, as a starter, he would be well over 10 boards, and more importantly, opens things up for Amar'e.
Dalembert's contract is also expiring at year's end.
4. Ramon Sessions, G, Cleveland Cavaliers
7 of 10
The Knicks went after Sessions in free agency a few seasons ago.
His abilities on the offensive end would perfectly fit what the Knicks do in D'Antoni's system.
Over the last three years he has averaged 10.1 points, 4.6 assists, and 3 rebounds in 24 minutes per game.
He's been stuck in Minnesota and Cleveland the past two seasons and could be a very gettable back up point guard right now.
3. Marc Gasol, C, Memphis Grizzlies
8 of 10
Another center the Knicks could look into this season, or at season's end, is Memphis' Marc Gasol.
Slated to become a restricted free agent at season's end, Gasol is a great fit for the Knicks up front.
At only 26, he could be a long term answer alongside Stoudemire.
Gasol is averaging 11.4 points and 7.2 rebounds in 33 minutes so far this season
2. Tyson Chandler, C, Dallas Mavericks
9 of 10
The 28-year old has made a good Dallas Mavericks team better.
He's averaging just under a double-double at nine points and nine boards a game and he also gets just over one block a game.
He does everything that would be needed to help protect Amar'e: rebound and play defense.
His youth and ability could be paired up with Amar'e for the Knicks future if they decide to try and keep him long term.
1. Sebastian Telfair, G, Minnesota Timberwolves
10 of 10
The New York native would thrive in the D'Antoni's system as a back point to Felton.
He's never got much of chance to break out and run in the NBA and as a result played for five different teams already.
This season in Minnesota 3.5 assists and 7 points in 20 minutes per game.
His three point percentage is the highest it has ever been and he is shooting 43 percent from the floor altogether.
The need for reducing Felton's minutes is great, Telfair would be a good guy to have.
