NBA Trade Rumors: Each Team's Top Trade Chips
NBA trade rumors are flying fast and furious and as we get closer and closer to the trade deadline, it's time to break down what every team has to offer in a possible deal.
Some teams have better trade chips than others and we're going through every team in the league and giving you the full breakdown on what they have and what they could possibly get back for them. It should be a wild ride as we get closer to the deadline so buckle up and get ready for more and more rumors.
Any thoughts or comments, make sure to leave them below. Who do you think your team should go out and get?
Boston Celtics
1 of 30
Nate Robinson is a guy that I could see the Celtics possibly moving if they need to make a move.
Boston learned the hard way about needed a lot of depth in the frontcourt to win an NBA title so guys like Glen Davis aren't going anywhere unless the Celtics can get something better in return. There are draft picks the Celtics could move, but with this being an aging Boston team, I think Danny Ainge would be hesitant to move those.
Robinson would make sense only if they could get a lesser point guard back as part of a package deal since he's the only guy listed behind Rajon Rondo on the depth chart.
It should be interesting to see where Boston is in the trade market this year.
New Jersey Nets
2 of 30
We've heard all about New Jersey's trade chips and there's plenty of them.
There's Devin Harris and Derrick Favors, who are the major pieces of the Nets' pitch to try and land Carmelo Anthony. You can also throw in Troy Murphy, who is an expiring contract to the mix as well. If a deal for Anthony falls apart, I think teams wil be interested in all of those guys.
Favors wouldn't move without getting a major star back but I could see the other two moving on.
New York Knicks
3 of 30
The New York Knicks are looking to make a deal for Carmelo Anthony but it doesn't look like that's going to happen.
One guy that could be moved is Danilo Gallinari. He's a three point shooter who is still rounding out his game and he could be really valuable to the team. New York has some other guys like Eddy Curry, who come off the books, but the Knicks are really looking forward to that cap space.
I'm sure the Knicks will stay on the fringe of the trade market looking for the right deal.
Philadelphia 76ers
4 of 30
The major piece that Philadelphia can and probably will be looking to move is Andre Iguodala.
His time in Philadelphia is up and I think everyone involved knows that. It was a good run, but it's time to put him in a situation where he can win and it's time to get something back for him that will help the Sixers get back on track.
I'd look for him to be dealt this year.
Toronto Raptors
5 of 30
Toronto has a lot of pieces that give teams cap relief and don't be surprised to hear names like Peja Stojakovic and Leandro Barbosa over the next month or so.
These guys could be salary dumps for teams and with a lockout coming, cap relief is exactly what a lot of owners will be looking for at the deadline. I think a lot of trades will be made with that in mind, especially by teams that don't have a shot at the playoffs.
It's sad but true.
Chicago Bulls
6 of 30
The Bulls are in a pretty tough spot after signing Joakim Noah to an extension.
Chicago has really looked to move Luol Deng in trade talks, but Deng's contract is awful and there's no team that's willing to take that on, especially with an uncertain labor situation looming. It's not worth what you get on the court and it puts the Bulls in a bind.
Chicago might be able to string something together from its lesser players, but I'm skeptical.
Cleveland Cavaliers
7 of 30
After last night's pitiful, disgusting performance, I'm sure Dan Gilbert would love to see everyone go.
However, guys like Antwan Jamison and Daniel Gibson are guys that I can see dealt in the near future. Anderson Varejao was one of those guys as well, but he is now out for the year and that kills his stock, which is a shame because he was having a good year too.
It's a mess in Cleveland right now.
Detroit Pistons
8 of 30
Richard Hamilton and Tayshaun Prince are two guys on the Pistons that just have to go.
Hamilton clearly doesn't want to be in Detroit anymore and with Ben Gordon on the roster, it just makes too much sense not to move him. Prince is a different story because he's a guy who has his contract up at the end of the year and the Pistons may want to hold on to that. However, Austin Daye is waiting in the wings so it looks like the end of the road for these two.
If both leave this year, Ben Wallace will be the only guy left from the 2004 NBA Championship team.
Indiana Pacers
9 of 30
The Pacers have floated the idea of trading Danny Granger and it might be what's best for him and the team.
Granger's stats and shooting percentage have slipped each of the past two seasons and I'm not sure what's wrong, but maybe a change of scenery can help. I know the Pacers are floating around the playoff picture, but I don't think there's a future with this group and Granger for some valuable pieces could shake it up.
I think he'll stay, but teams will inquire.
Milwaukee Bucks
10 of 30
If you want a shooter and an expiring contract, look no further than the Milwaukee Bucks.
Michael Redd would be an interesting option for a lot of teams out there, even though Redd has been nothing short of injury prone in recent years. He's a guy who could really help a team out during the stretch run and the Bucks might be able to get a good deal back.
I think we could see him dealt.
Atlanta Hawks
11 of 30
Atlanta is a team that I think really needs to shake things up, but the Hawks seem hesitant.
A guy like Jamal Crawford could net a decent package in return and since Atlanta is hesitant to move Josh Smith, he seems like the best option if the Hawks want to make a move. In fact, I think they need to make a move.
They aren't the top team in the East and there's about three or four teams better than them right now. Things need to change.
Charlotte Bobcats
12 of 30
Earlier this year, there were some whispers that everyone was on the block in the eyes of Michael Jordan.
That would include Stephen Jackson and Gerald Wallace. I'm sure there would be a ton of interest in these two guys and that the Bobcats could get pretty decent returns on them. I'm not sure how serious Jordan is about shaking things up, but I wouldn't be surprised if he did.
Charlotte's phone should be ringing about those guys more and more as we get closer to the deadline.
Miami Heat
13 of 30
The Miami Heat are in a terrible spot in the trade market.
With the depth behind the trio of LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh almost being non-existent, there's not much for Miami to really talk about in terms of trade bait. I think the Heat will have to stand pat at the deadline and there's not much else they can do.
It's a tough spot to be in if you're Pat Riley.
Orlando Magic
14 of 30
The Orlando Magic already made their big splash in the trade market so don't hold your breath for more.
Sure, the Magic could use another big man to beef up their front line after trading Marcin Gortat to Phoenix in the deals that brought Gilbert Arenas, Jason Richardson and Hedo Turkoglu to Orlando a couple of weeks ago.
Orlando could try and swing a guy like Richardson, but i don't see that happening.
Washington Wizards
15 of 30
The Wizards have already moved Gilbert Arenas and it looks like other moves might be on the way.
Guys like Andray Blatche and JaVale McGee have had their names tossed around in trade rumors and with the Wizards trying to build around John Wall, I think it would take a pretty good offer to swipe these guys away.
Wall can't do it himself and I'm not sure the market it exactly hot for these two just yet.
Golden State Warriors
16 of 30
The Golden State Warriors have about $14 million in two expiring contracts that could entice a lot of teams out there.
Dan Gadzuric and Vladimir Radmanovich are guys that we can see moved before the trade deadline as teams look to dump salary and take on some expiring deals. With that, the Warriors can build around Stephen Curry, Monta Ellis and David Lee to build a nice little squad.
That's clearly Golden State's best option right now.
Los Angeles Clippers
17 of 30
This one seemed like a formality at the start of the season, but now, I'm not so sure.
Baron Davis looked terrible to start the year but now he's back and he's built up quite the connection with Blake Griffin. Watching these two on a fast break is a thing of beauty and they've put together some amazing highlight reel plays.
With Eric Bledsoe waiting in the wings, I think Davis' days are numbered though.
Los Angeles Lakers
18 of 30
The Lakers don't have a lot of options on the table, but Los Angeles does have limited options.
Los Angeles has money left over from the Sasha Vujucic deal and the Lakers can use that to help bring in a role player. The Lakers could really use a guy to shake things up on the bench and help give them a little extra kick down the stretch.
That could be exactly what the doctor ordered for Los Angeles.
Phoenix Suns
19 of 30
The Suns are a team that's going nowhere fast and it's time for Steve Nash to go.
He's been so good to that franchise for years, but Nash deserves a shot to win a championship and Phoenix should do him that solid and help get him to a place where he can make a deep playoff run and get close to a ring.
He's the most valuable piece the Suns have and could net a nice return.
Sacramento Kings
20 of 30
The Sacramento Kings are looking to be sellers and there's plenty of options.
Samuel Dalembert is looking to get out and guys like Carl Landry and Omri Casspi could also be dealt as the Kings look to try and regroup here. Sacramento has pieces that can be moved, even if they're not the biggest names.
Teams will take a look at these guys at the deadline.
Dallas Mavericks
21 of 30
Originally, this would be Caron Butler, but with him going out for the year with an injury, this limits Dallas' options.
I think a guy like Brendan Haywood would be a good option for some teams out there who are looking to beef up on the front line. The Mavericks are never afraid to work a trade so it should be interesting to see what they do going forward.
Never underestimate Mark Cuban.
Houston Rockets
22 of 30
The Rockets have talked about moving Yao Ming and since he's an expiring contract, he's appealing to a lot of teams.
I also think that maybe the Rockets would entertain an offer for Kevin Martin if the right pitch came around for the shooter. Houston isn't afraid to move players for assets and the Rockets have a big stockpile and could be a big player in the trade market.
Houston is a team to keep your eye on.
Memphis Grizzlies
23 of 30
The Grizzlies are another team that could be major sellers and a big piece of that will be Zach Randolph.
There have been rumors about him getting traded and to a lesser extent, O.J. Mayo, who has had major issues this year and has been discussed in other trade rumors. The Grizzlies aren't going anywhere and moving these guys could give Memphis a fresh start.
Things could be worse after that huge Rudy Gay contract, which was terrible.
New Orleans Hornets
24 of 30
If I'm the GM of the New Orleans Hornets, I'd think about trading Chris Paul.
However, that's not going to happen for a second. Paul is not going to stay in New Orleans after his contract is up and he would be a great option for the Hornets to explore. He's an elite point guard and New Orleans would get get a lot back for him.
However, Paul and David West are going to stay put.
San Antonio Spurs
25 of 30
It's funny to think of the Spurs making a trade since the roster has stayed relatively the same for years.
Maybe San Antonio would think about moving Richard Jefferson if the right person hit the market but that's a long shot at best. The Spurs will likely stand pat unless they can get a bench guy through a small trade with assets.
I wouldn't count on it though.
Denver Nuggets
26 of 30
This is a no brainer. It's Carmelo Anthony.
The Nuggets need to move him one way or another. Anthony is not coming back to Denver, that much is obvious, and the Nuggets need to get something back for him before he leaves them with nothing. The Nets have gotten close but Anthony really wants to go the Knicks.
The problem is that New York doesn't have the chips the Nuggets want. That's a problem. We'll see how this plays out, but I don't think it will be pretty.
Minnesota Timberwolves
27 of 30
Minnesota has a decent nucleus in place with Kevin Love and Michael Beasley but other than that, I'm not impressed by much.
Corey Brewer is a guy who could be moved though. He's a guy with a lot of potential and could be someone who really turns it on in the right system. If someone needs a guard/forward, Brewer could be had for a good price.
We all know David Kahn will make trades, even if they're not the smartest.
Oklahoma City Thunder
28 of 30
The Thunder are a young team with a lot of pieces and one that could be moving is Jeff Green.
Green has been the subject of trade rumors in the past and with Serge Ibaka stepping up and playing big minutes for the Thunder, it could be a little easier to move on from the power foward. Sure, Ibaka doesn't shoot like Green, but his defense more than makes up for it.
He would be an attractive option to a lot of teams and the Thunder could get some good things in return.
Portland Trail Blazers
29 of 30
In reality, Portland has a couple of expiring deals but one guy I think could be valuable in a trade is Marcus Camby.
He's a guy that could really help bolster a team defensively down the stretch and give a team a presence in the paint that can help win a championship. I think if Camby was floated out there, that a lot of teams would bite.
I'd seriously think about it if I'm the Blazers.
Utah Jazz
30 of 30
Andrei Kirilenko is a guy the Jazz should really think about moving.
Not only is he a valuable player, mostly as a scorer, he's an expiring contract, so he can be a guy a team uses for a stretch run or someone who is brought in and can be tested out to see if he's worth an extension for the long term.
I'm not sure if Utah is willing to part with him, but they should certainly consider it.
