My Take: NCAA Division I Men's Basketball Championship
Call me crazy, but I liked the idea of the NCAA tournament as it was at 64 teams.
What I didn't like was how the slots were allocated exactly. My approach to the NCAA tournament would be pretty simplified, as are most of my realignment/rehashings.
To boot, 32 conferences are eligible to compete in this tournament. I would bring the number of spots back to 64.

One spot would go to the champion of all 32 conferences, including the newest one accepted, the Great West, which currently doesn't automatically qualify until 2020.
The other 32 spots can go to the runners-up. Then fragment into four regions as usual and continue.
Simple, effective and ties in the conference's playoffs (if they occur) to the NCAA tournament.
Conferences that don't use a playoff (i.e. Ivy League) can send their first and second-place teams from the regular season.
Seeding? I would first throw the 64 qualifiers into the four traditional regions. Then I would rank them by regular season win percentage, wins out-of-conference, points per game, PA/G and so on.
Teams would be ranked 1-16 in this format, and seeded accordingly.
No. 1 still plays No. 16, No. 2 plays No. 15 and so on in the first round.
In the second round, seeds are re-seeded appropriately (i.e. No. 1 plays No. 8, No. 2 plays No. 7).
This process continues up to the Final Four. In the Final Four, the four seeds are again compared with the win percentage and other mentioned criteria.
The Final Four is played, and a new champion is crowned.
