NBA Trade Rumors: Carmelo Anthony and The Proposed New Jersey Nets Trade
There is more news on the Carmelo Anthony trade front.
Reports are now surfacing that the proposed deal that would send Anthony to the Nets may not happen for at least a month's time and much closer to the NBA trade deadline of February 24th.
There are several logistical issues to hammer out in the deal, including how the Nets could pull the trigger, considering they may have as few as five players on the roster with all of the pieces involved should one of the proposed scenarios be agreed upon.
The soon-to-be Brooklyn bound franchise would create their own version of the "Big Three" in the East, although it wouldn't be quite as threatening as either Boston or Miami.
The Nets would haul in Carmelo Anthony, veteran point guard Chauncey Billups and prolific swingman Richard Hamilton to create a dynamic scoring threat to pair with Melo.
The entire deal would reportedly involve an incredible 13 players, so it's easy to see that this won't be all too easy to pull off in a quick fashion.
The Nets' new billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov will reportedly stop at nothing to lure the superstar to the franchise, as he desperately seeks to boost momentum and ticket sales before the highly anticipated move to the Big Apple.
Here is the complete breakdown of the deal:
Teams Involved: New Jersey Nets, Denver Nuggets, Detroit Pistons
New Jersey Receives: SF Carmelo Anthony, PG Chauncey Billups, SG Richard Hamilton, PF Shelden Williams, SG Terrico White
Denver Receives: PG Devin Harris, PF Derrick Favors, SG Anthony Morrow, SF Stephen Graham, PG Ben Uzoh, SF Quinton Ross and at least two first round selections via New Jersey.
Detroit Receives: PF Troy Murphy, C Johan Petro
Here is where it gets really interesting, though: In an effort to fuel the rebuilding effort in Denver, the Nuggets are asking the Nets to take either PF Al Harrington and/or SF Renaldo Balkman off the roster as well.
Obviously, the Nets don't have interest in either, as they are seen as financial burdens that the Nets don't need. With the team having to sign Anthony to a massive extension, there is no room for dead weight on the roster if the team hopes to seriously compete in a loaded East in the foreseeable future.
Matching the biggest deal in NBA history, the proposed deal is being fueled by Anthony's agent, Leon Rose.
Hopefully, this deal gets done sooner rather than later, so it doesn't turn into a constant breaking news story on a daily basis.
The details need to be ironed out over the next month or so, but in the end, it appears that the Nets do indeed have the best package of players to send back to Denver.
Unfortunately for the Nuggets and their fans, nothing can replace the sting of losing a superstar like Carmelo.
