10 Philadelphia Eagles Who Need To Be Replaced Before Next Season
Over the course of an NFL season, several things become evident, even to the most casual of observers. Being that I am a fervent Eagles fan, many things have caught my attention, some encouraging and some disturbing. While 10 wins, an NFC East title and a playoff berth are all good signs for a young team, I cannot turn a blind eye to some serious deficiencies in this team, personnel wise.
In Andy Reid's tenure, the Eagles have been in the playoffs nine times, including this year. We all know that that includes five NFC championship games and ZERO Super Bowl wins. What is needed to finally get over the hump and win the big one?
In the following slideshow, I have presented 10 Philadelphia Eagles who need to be replaced this offseason, preferably with upgrades.
Sean McDermott

To think how far the Eagles Defense has fallen since the Jim Johnson era. Two short years, and Sean has single handedly destroyed it, from having the wrong personnel on the field, to poor evaluations of player talent, to horrible defensive schemes. Going into an NFL game with Sean's scheme is like bringing a knife to a gunfight. The team is 22nd in the league in points allowed, worst in Red Zone defense and breaks down in every critical situation.
He has followed in the footsteps of Andy, making excuses for his players in press conferences, which is noble. The excuses he provides, however, are laughable: He didn't switch Ellis Hobbs for Asante Samuel after Hobbs was torched by Kenny Britt, then says, "You don't do that in this league. Not in the NFL."
A smart coach would, buddy. Sean was not ready to step in as DC, especially for a defensive genius like JJ.
Bobby April

Where to start? He came in touted as the "best in the business". I was expecting to see immediate results. I did, just not in a good way. I really don't know what former coach Ted Daisher did wrong, but he didn't do a worse job than April is doing. At this point, it is obvious to me that this is the worst ST play I have seen in the Andy Reid era. We have no dangerous players on ST, are always good for at least one penalty a game and cannot cover kickoffs.
In training camp Bobby, had the players perform unorthodox training exercises such as practicing with soccer balls and using a mechanical leg. He would have been better served teaching them how to play football.
If Bobby is the best, who's the worst? Scary thought huh?
Stewart Bradley

I know, I know, he's great. One of the best in football. A leader on defense. All according to Andy.
Stewart is one of the most overrated players in recent memory. The brass tries to spoon feed us that Stewart is the next Ray Lewis, LT or some other HOFer. I'm not even sure he's the next Mark Simoneau at this point. When he's not on injured reserve, he's getting blown off the ball by lineman, run past by tight ends and diving at the feet of RB's. It really seems as if he lacks the instincts to be a good MLB.
How's this for stats? In 13 games, he has 60 tackles and one interception. In just two games, his replacement Jamar Chaney has 23 tackles and one forced fumble, on pace for far superior stats than Stewie's.
Dimitri Patterson

To call DP a cornerback is very generous. A more appropriate term would be "scrub", but that is not an official roster spot at this point in time.
To be fair, he has accomplished a lot just by being on an NFL team. It's become clear from his play why he played football at Tuskegee, why he was an undrafted free agent signed to the Redskins practice squad, why he was cut by three other teams before landing with the Eagles. Simply put he's not good at football. He lacks the physical skills to play at this level.
A feel good story that needs an ending, and soon!
Jorrick Calvin

Jorrick is unique in the fact that he has failed at three different positions on this team. Besides the poor combination of small stature with less than stellar speed, he has come up empty in his many return opportunities.
Let's look at his resume: He gets chased down by DE's on kickoffs. Check. He fumbles fair catches. Check. He runs around aimlessly in the end-zone because he lacks a knowledge of the game of football. Check. He hurts the team by getting penalized for unsportsmanlike conduct. Check. Time to give him his last paycheck.

What? A Pro Bowl player?! Well, actually he was an alternate who played when two players ahead of him backed out due to injuries and Super Bowl obligations.
I don't dislike QM. He was kind of tough to put on this list. He just isn't starting safety material. He was OK when he was playing next to Brian Dawkins, but then again, who isn't? On his own, he is often out of position in coverage, slow on his break to receivers, and good for getting trucked by RB's at least once per game, usually at the goal line. I'm in favor of him staying with the team, but only as a backup.

The true definition of a "training camp legend". WOW...He consistently, and I mean consistently, delivered body rocking shots on Eagles offensive players during training camp. He looks absolutely lost during the regular season, never even remotely in the vicinity of making a play. I honestly can't remember one time during the season so far when I have seen his value. Not once. I'm talking never here.
Sean McDermott called him "a shark in the water" and talked about his speed, saying "he can fly". The only time I've seen that is when he is getting launched by the other team's fullback or linemen.
The Detroit Lions didn't want this guy. Does that tell you something?
Chad Hall

Not much to say about him. He's not Wes Welker. He's not Danny Woodhead. It's humorous to see him in there, especially on goal line situations. I'm not really sure what Andy was trying to accomplish when he signed him to a three year contract.
King Dunlap

He's 6'9" and 330 lbs. One of the biggest men in the league gets pushed all over the field. I can't understand it. Simply can't understand it. Maybe it's a technique issue, but how long can this project last?

This team really has the undrafted free agent market cornered. I'm still trying to figure out where he fits on this team. I know he's just the third running back/STer, but shouldn't he fill some need? Lacks the lateral moves and speed of McCoy. Doesn't possess the power of Jerome Harrison. Isn't as big as a fullback like Schmitt. He really seems just like a lifelong STer. A very ordinary one.
