The two teammates were eventually separated and brought to meet with Grizzlies coach Lionel Hollins. The sources quoted in the Yahoo! Sports report noted that the organization believes Mayo played a bigger part in the fight.
The team issued a statement Tuesday, stating, “The club considers the matter closed and will not comment further.”
Wojnarowski's story goes on to say that Allen told one associate that the money Mayo owed to him was, “short money.” Another source said that Mayo owed Allen, “a few grand.”
Mayo was out of the lineup Tuesday with the official reason being a case of bronchitis. Mayo's replacement was Allen, who scored 19 points to help Memphis defeat Oklahoma City.
The card game involved in the altercation was Boo-Ray, the same game played between Gilbert Arenas and Javaris Crittenton that led to Arenas bringing guns into the locker room.
