Rashard Lewis Traded for Gilbert Arenas: A Wizards Fan's View
Well, Wizards fans, the day has come, it's time to say bye to Gilbert Arenas.
There has been plenty of talks in the past about the potential of Gilbert Arenas being traded to Orlando due to his friendship with Magic general manager Otis Smith and today seems to be the day of reality.
The Washington Post reports the Wizards and Magic are in serious trade negotiations to hammer out a deal that will send Arenas to Orlando.
"It's very close. A really strong possibility," a source told the newspaper.
"The Magic realizes they have to make a move. They have to do something," the source added. "It seems like it's about the right time."
On Tuesday Arenas reportedly told people close to him that a deal could be in the works that would send him to Orlando or Charlotte.
Their are details saying that the trade would be Gilbert Arenas to the Orlando Magic for Rashard Lewis to the Washington Wizards.
According to Yahoo! Sports, the Magic are also trying to make another deal to make room for Arenas and his huge contract, which will most likely be the deal that would send Marcin Gortat and Vince Carter to the Phoenix Suns for Jason Richardson, Earl Clark, and Hedo Turkoglu.
The Orlando Magic are definitely winners in this trade outcome, possibly the Phoenix Suns also; but the Washington Wizards are losers as they have a player with a bigger contract than Arenas but one year less than Arenas.
Unless Rashard Lewis awakens and starts to dominate games, which is about a 30 percent chance of that happening.
Don't really see how this is a step forward for the Wizards, Lewis is definitely on the decline of his career and probably should play small forward on the Wizards because of the amount of depth they have at the power forward position.
Arenas is making $17.73 million this season and is owed another $62.42 million for three more years until 2014; and this is obviously a huge risk for Orlando.
But if it works out, then the Magic should be title contenders once again.
If this trade doesn't pan out as planned for the Wizards, expect Ernie Grunsfeld to be relieved of his duties. The reason for this is being that the owner, Ted Leonsis, said during the off-season that the Wizards were going to build through the draft; doing this would mean that the Wizards should obtain draft picks when trading.
The Wizards basically got slapped in the face by not getting any draft picks to go along with Lewis. On a positive note, maybe Lewis can shine on this team who obviously needs a ton of help.
