Chicago Bulls: The 10 Greatest Buzzer Beaters in Franchise History (With Video)
How many times when you were growing up did you say to yourself, 3..2...1, and then chuck up the shot and make the the "crowd goes wild" sound to yourself as you parade around the playground court, basking in the imagined praises and exhalation? It's the shot in basketball, and the Bulls have had more their share of them between the likes of Michael Jordan, Ben Gordon and most recently Derrick Rose.
But among the buzzer beaters, there are those that beat the others. The most special shots of all that lay claim to a kind of history. These are those shots, the shots that Bulls fans will remember where they were when they saw it go in. For your viewing pleasure, video is provided.
10: Scottie Pippen Starts Off Career With Getting Jordan's Back
1 of 10In just the second start of his career, Scottie Pippen portended what the future would be, Jordan's wing-man. Now I know that some people act like that's a bad thing. I think it's what made Pippen spectacular. He could have been a superstar. Instead he chose to be a legend.
9: What Lies Ahead?
2 of 10Derrick Rose has been doing it, but it seems that this one was the shot where he's stepping into that rarefied company of Kobe and MJ. Heck, even Kobe thinks so. With this shot Rose sends the game into overtime and the Bulls eventually win. The future is definitely "rosy" in Chicago.
8: Toni Kukoc's "Anything You Can Do I Can Do Better" Buzzer Beater
3 of 10On January 21, 1994, the Bulls played Indiana Pacers. Reggie Miller learned to wait until you celebrate. Anything more would be a spoiler. You just have to watch this video.
By the way you may have seen the bow on the 30 for 30 commercials. You don't see what happened next.
7: Ben Gordon Sends Game 4 To 2OT With His 3 Pointer
4 of 10Ben Gordon provided us with one of the more memorable moments in arguably the most memorable first round series in the history of the NBA. In all, in six games, the series saw six overtimes, the most of any series ever. This was perhaps the most memorable moment that Gordon provided for us, even if the bad guys go on to win the series.
6: The Shot
5 of 10In the NBA world, only one shot is known as "The Shot." It was the shot that ended the Cavaliers. I watched this game in Chicago with some friends from Cleveland, although I had not yet moved here. Needless to say, they were none to happy. My Chicago friends on the other hand...
5: Toni Kukoc Beats New York Knicks In Game 3 of Conference Semi's
6 of 10This one actually caused a bit of a rift. Scottie Pippen, who aside from this moment, was one of the most selfless players in NBA history, was miffed that the play was drawn up for Kukoc instead of him. Kukoc made the shot, even though Pippen refused to go on the court for the play. The bad guys went on to win the series though.
4: None Of That Jazz
7 of 10I wonder if it's safe for MJ to travel in Utah?
3: Steve Kerr Wins NBA Championship
8 of 10Part of the measure of Jordan's greatness, and I say this respectfully, is something Kobe doesn't have. In his career Kobe Bryant got his first career game winning assist to start the season. Jordan was always willing to let his teammate take a good shot before he took a bad shot, even if all that was on the line was an NBA championship.
2: John Paxson Wins NBA Championship From Behind The Arc
9 of 10...and even if it's from behind the arc.
1: Michael Jordan Wins Sixth Ring With Final Shot (as a Bull)
10 of 10Could there have been a better way for the greatest ever to end his career? In Chicago we pretend that that whole Washington thing never happened.
Have you ever thought about this? Of the Bulls six championships, Jordan either assisted or scored the final and game-winning basket on three of them? How great is that?
