Andrew Bynum: Season Debut Will Come on Dec. 14, but Still Not Universally Owned

Justin HasanDec 14, 2010

With Bynum set to return, it's surprising that he is unowned in almost a quarter of fantasy leagues.

Andrew Bynum is expected to make his season debut on Dec. 14 in Washington.  Playing against the defensively–challenged Wizards (who give up the fifth-most points in the NBA) seems like the perfect way to start the season for Bynum.

Don’t expect heavy minutes in Bynum's first game back, as the Lakers will be cautious with the annually-injured big man.  Fortunately the Lakers' East Coast road trip continues and Bynum should wreak havoc against the 76ers and Raptors on Friday and Sunday, respectively.

When healthy, Bynum has been very productive over the past three seasons despite playing less than 31 minutes per game. Last year, Bynum averaged a career high in points (15), along with 8.3 rebounds and 1.5 blocks, while shooting 57 percent from the field.  Surprisingly, the fifth-year player is still available in some fantasy leagues.

The lack of ownership could be because fantasy owners are getting frustrated with his consistent DNPs year after year. Last year, with the exception of the final four regular season games, Bynum was absent for the fantasy playoffs.  But keep in mind that he had productive months in November, December and January.

Make sure to check your waiver wire just in case he is still available.
