NBA Rumors: 5 Andre Iguodala Trades That Work for the Philadelphia 76ers
After the Philadelphia 76ers drafted Evan Turner with the second overall pick in the NBA draft, it didn't take long for Andre Iguodala trade rumors to heat up.
And since Turner has struggled to coexist with Iguodala so far, the rumors have picked up even more steam.
While coach Doug Collins may be reluctant to give up such an electrifying player, it seems like the smart move to get Iguodala's burdensome contract—over $12 million per year for four years—off the books and move forward with a backcourt of Jrue Holiday and Turner.
Here are five trades that would work for the Sixers (and work under the NBA's salary cap provisions).
New York Knicks
1 of 6
76ers receive: Eddy Curry (expiring contract), Landry Fields and Anthony Randolph
Knicks receive: Iguodala
The trade would benefit both teams—the Sixers would get cap relief with Curry's expiring contract—and the Knicks improve their team's overall talent tremendously with Iguodala starting instead of Fields.
The Sixers would get two young players with upside, although they don't really need Fields.
But New York likely won't pull the trigger as it waits for Carmelo Anthony's pending free agency (or trades for him).
New Jersey Nets
2 of 6
76ers receive: Derrick Favors and Troy Murphy (expiring contract)
Nets receive: Iguodala and Jodie Meeks
Favors has shown a lot of promise his rookie year, and if the Nets think they can't land Anthony, they may go after Iguodala.
It's questionable whether the Nets will want to give up Favors for anything less than a superstar, but there is definitely a chance they'd pull the trigger on this deal.
The trade would also give Philly two of the top three picks in last year's draft, and a roster loaded with potential.
Dallas Mavericks
3 of 6
76ers receive: Caron Butler (expiring contract) and Rodrigue Beaubois
Mavericks receive: Iguodala
The Mavericks would love to get rid of Butler—and the Sixers would love to get his expiring contract. Throw in Beaubois and all of his potential, and this trade could work.
Two potential deal-breakers: Beaubois' injury and the Mavs' reluctance to give him up.
Sacramento Kings
4 of 6
76ers receive: Jason Thompson, Hassan Whiteside and Omri Casspi
Kings receive: Iguodala
The Kings get rid of their frontcourt logjam and add some explosiveness to their backcourt, and the Sixers add some upside to their frontcourt.
Win-win.
Toronto Raptors
5 of 6
Raptors receive: Andre Igoudala
76ers receive: Peja Stojakovic (expiring contract)
This would be a pure cap-relief move, but if the Raptors want to infuse some talent onto their decimated roster and the Sixers can't do better, the numbers work.
