Los Angeles Clippers: The Best Basketball Team in the City of Angels

Jose SalviatiDec 2, 2010

Wow, that was quick. Easily the greatest turnaround in the history of the Association. The Clippers, long an NBA doormat and perennial afterthought to the Lakers in Los Angeles, are suddenly enjoying the view from the top.

Since way back in November, the 26th to be exact, the Clippers have been a better basketball team than the Lakers. Numbers don't lie.

Numbers don't lie, the Clippers are the best basketball team in all of Los Angeles.

It's exciting to look ahead now to see what the future holds. Certainly cameos for the players on TV shows is a given. I can see Blake Griffin on an episode of Law and Order SVU.

Stabler and Benson are talking as they sit on the right side of a two-way mirror looking into the interview room while Griffin sits there looking indifferent.

Benson:  "That's a big guy Elliot, let me handle this."
Stabler:  "I'm not letting that scumbag get away. He had motive, opportunity and look at him, acting like we are inconveniencing him."

Ice-T's character walks in.

Ice T's character: "Cap said to let him go. DNA tests came in, he's a Clipper!"

Eric Gordon can spruce up his Garret Anderson-like personality with a spot on the comedy Modern Family. The teenage girl in the show has a crush on the school's new PE teacher.

Modern Family Teenage Girl: "Mom, dad, this is Eric."
Eric: "Hello."
Dad: "Whats up dawg?"

Insert laugh track

DeAndre Jordan as a judge on American Idol, Vinny Del Negro hosting SNL, the possibilities are endless.

I'm sure the invitation for the Clippers to the ESPY's is all ready being printed. Things are looking up.

Now comes the exciting part, the countdown to the battle for L.A. The Clippers are poised to deliver the knockout blow Wednesday, Dec. 8. Has there been a more anticipated regular season game, ever?

Huh? Miami and LeBron are in Cleveland tonight? Yeah, well, that comes close, but a distant second to the battle for Southland Supremacy, the lockdown in Lalaland. On Dec. 8, we will crown the top cherub in the City of Angels.

It doesn't get any bigger than that.

In the meantime, the Lakers have to face Sacramento and Washington. Given their recent history against bad teams, the Lakers are in trouble.

The Clippers match up against Denver, Portland and Sacramento. After wins against not one, but two teams with the Association's best record, these games look manageable for the best team in Los Angeles.

I'm not one to get carried away normally, but watching the Clippers' sudden rise to the top has left me inspired. What's next? Paris Hilton winning an Oscar? Vanilla Ice taking home a Grammy? The Lions winning the Super Bowl?

Underdogs everywhere are waking up.

What the Clippers have done since way back in November is nothing short of amazing. On Dec. 8, after they dispose of the "LoseKers," after President Obama chimes in about how the economy is going to rebound with the ferocity of Blake Griffin, after the parade route is mapped out, then everyone will know what I know already.

The Los Angeles Clippers are the best basketball team in Los Angeles.

For now.
