NBA News: Eric Gordon, Blake Griffin and the New Look Los Angeles Clippers
No matter how talented the Clippers are on paper every season, it seems that they just can't get off the schneid.
Every year, the Clips fail to meet expectations. Whether it's poor play, bad coaching or a combination of both, the "other" team in Los Angeles just can't seem to escape the shadow that continually haunts them.
While there is certainly no quick fix for the problems that the team continues to face, perhaps these five suggestions might just be steps in the right direction toward turning around the franchise.
Trade Chris Kaman
While he might be a fan favorite, the caveman is overrated and overpaid. It is true that he has shown some flashes of brilliance in the low post, but Kaman is far too inconsistent to be relied upon.
Furthermore, when he's in the game the offense has to be run through him, limiting the touches and opportunities for the team's best two players, Blake Griffin and Eric Gordon. Start DeAndre Jordan and let the Blake Griffin takeover continue, as the team will have greater payroll flexibility as they move into the future.
Suspend Baron Davis Indefinitely
Is this scenario realistic? Probably not, but it's clear that Davis is a cancer in the locker room that has been eating at the team's chemistry for far too long.
The youth movement is just about in full swing for the underachieving Clippers, and there's no reason that an overpaid, quickly aging point guard has any business being on the court for a franchise that's rebuilding.
Give Al-Farouq Aminu the Minutes Brian Cook and Ryan Gomes Are Soaking Up
Frankly, it's hard to believe that Cook is still in the league, and as far as Gomes goes, it's clear that he'll never have the consistency to carve out a significant role as a starter in this league.
The team surpassed an intriguing pool of talent when they decided to select Aminu in the first round (eighth overall) this year, so why not play him extensively? With no chance of the postseason in sight, it only makes sense to see how the rookie can fare.
Make Eric Gordon As Much of a Franchise Face As Blake Griffin
The team has done an incredible job of making Griffin the face of the team, and he's rewarded them admirably with his level of play. But what about Eric Gordon?
Overshadowed immensely by the power forward's large shadow, Gordon is having his best professional season and has really evolved into a dynamic scorer. Averaging 24.2 pts, 3.1 rebounds and 4.9 assists, the Indiana product is one of the most promising young shooting guards around.
Despite standing at an undersized 6'3", Gordon's explosiveness and ability to get to the rim are undeniable and he's been playing just as well as his counterpart Griffin all season long.
Give Owner Donald Sterling the Al Davis Treatment
This one is rather simple: Al Davis was running the Raiders into the ground before ceasing ultimate authority to his football people, and that's the exact same thing that Sterling is doing with the Clippers.
Known as one of the worst owners in professional sports, anyone who hired Mike Dunleavy to be both head coach and general manager should probably be sent for a CT scan as soon as possible.
