NBA Rumors: Knicks' Mike D'Antoni on Hot Seat, Amar'e Stoudemire Not Happy
The newness of the New York Knicks team is wearing off fast. Mike D’Antoni could soon be fired, and newly added superstar Amare Stoudemire is very upset with his new team. The only thing that could possibly save the D’Antoni and cool Stoudemire’s anger might be Carmelo Anthony. The urgency of that matter has appeared to die down a bit, but urgency is one thing that Stoudemire wants to see more of.
“I don’t understand why we’re not playing with the urgency,” a visibly dejected Stoudemire said after a 104-96 loss to the Houston Rockets.
“I’m not used to that. We don’t have that sense of urgency. It’s almost as if it doesn’t matter. That’s something I’m not used to. I try to instill the fact that we have to play with sense of urgency. It’s not like we won four games in a row, we lost four games in a row. We just still are not having the sense of urgency. We’re not showing that we really want it.”
Stoudemire was all smiles when showing up in New York this summer, but now, he may be regretting his decision. He’s playing on a team that isn’t really that talented across the board and he can resurrect the franchise by himself.
Recently, he was moved to the center position and that’s not a good sign for the Knicks. They come in to each game undersized and less skilled across the board. That’s not a recipe for success and will only shorten D’Antoni’s remaining days as the Knicks coach.
D’Antoni, who is 64-110 in his time with the Knicks, may be the scapegoat for the front office before too long. The fans are becoming restless and the team isn’t playing any different. It is very early in the season, but as Stoudemire mentioned, there’s no sense of urgency in the way the team plays. The coach is responsible for finding lineups who can play with urgency.
D’Antoni has admitted that he knows if things don’t go well, he won’t make it to the end of his 4-year contract. Unfortunately for him, he doesn’t have the personel to do well, and his time is officially limited.
As the Knicks lost to the Houston Rockets, who were without Yao Ming and Aaron Brooks, on Sunday, the fans booed loudly for the better part of the fourth quarter. New York is a tough crowd, and there’s not enough pieces to the puzzle to keep them happy.
D’Antoni, Stoudemire, and Knicks fans all need to pray for one thing: Anthony to find his way to town and fast. If he doesn’t, D’Antoni will be canned, Stoudemire will stop playing hard (as he has multiple times in the past), and the Knicks fans will endure another long year of playing for nothing.
It’s time for Spike Lee to use his connections.
