Oklahoma City Thunder PG Russell Westbrook Has a New Nickname: "Cat"
Yes, folks, you heard it from me, first and foremost, right here and right now on Bleacher Report. I am officially giving OKC Thunder emerging superstar PG Russell Westbrook an official nickname.
Unless I get a memo from any animal rights activist or Russell Westbrook himself telling me not to do it, from hear on out, I will refer to the Thunder PG as Russell "Cat" Westbrook.
The name is synonymous with his playing style and fits him to a "T." His superior speed and "cat-like" quickness allows him to slash through the lane and finish with some of the most ferocious slam dunks ever delivered by a point guard. The crowd is always amazed at how quickly "Cat" Westbrook can get to the basket and also get down the floor.
Thunder play-by-play announcer Brian Davis and color analyst Grant Long are often left speechless when "Cat" Westbrook starts his cat-like antics during the Oklahoma City Thunder broadcasts.
Long said if he could give Westbrook a nickname, he would call him "The Catalyst" because of what he described as Westbrook's ability to be the catalyst at directing the Thunder offensive and defensive attacks.
There is no question that "Cat" Westbrook is one of the quickest point guards in the league right now and this nickname is long overdue. "Cat" Westbrook has been giving opposing coaches and teams fits lately with his jumping ability, cat-like quickness and slashing slam-dunk finishes.
I recently saw a list of the top 10 most improved players in the league, but much to my dismay, Russell "Cat" Westbrook was not even on the list. Now can you leave off this guy when no one really knew who he was at the beginning of last year, but he has turned-out to be one of the most feared point guards in the league?
His play this summer in the World Championship games forced basketball fans from all over to open their eyes to see and appreciate his quickness, slashing ability and lock-down defense on the perimeter.
World Championship games coach Mike Krzyzewski gave "Cat" Westbrook quality minutes as he was selected to stay on the team amid rumors that it was between him, Rajon Rondo and Stephon Curry for the final spot on the team.
Rondo quashed all rumors by electing to leave the team on his own, and this paved the way for "Cat" Westbrook to team-up with his OKC Thunder teammate Kevin Durant to help bring the championship back home to the USA.
"Cat" Westbrook hooks-up with emerging superstar Kevin Durant to form a Batman and Robin-type duo for the Oklahoma City Thunder. He often leads the Thunder in steals, assists and sometimes even rebounds. He is a pleasure to watch and continues to "revolutionize" the point guard position for the Oklahoma City Thunder.
