Dwight Howard and the NBA's Production Per Minute All-Star Team So Far
In this story I list the only players in the NBA who have a 1.1 production per minute rate according to my formula. Dwight Howard, so far, is the league's most productive player.
I created this formula by adding a player's rebounds plus their assists (times 2 because one assist equals approx. 2 pts) plus their steals (times 2 because I award players for defense) plus their blocks (times 2) then I subtract turnovers and personal fouls and then add the players total points = whatever number I have then is divided my minutes played.
The number you get from thsi formula shows which players accumulated positive production points at a rate of over 1.1 per minute. These are the only 13 guys in the league (who play over 15 minutes a game) who do it as of Nov. 5.
Yeah, it's early on, but it is still statistical fact. Not only that, it does not care about fg% or intangibles. It is just stark reality.
Also, just so you know, I am not a D. Howard fan whatsoever. This is just stats!
#13: Dwyane Wade

Wade is sharing the load with James and is still yet really productive. He is averaging 5.0 reb, 4.2 ast, 1.6 stl, 1.0 blk, 3 to, 2.8 pf and 22.4 pts per game in only 31.6 minutes so far. His per minute production score is 1.114.
#12: Mike Conley
2 of 13
Memphis' most productive player per minute early on. He is averaging 5.8 reb, 9.2 ast. 3.4 stl, 0.0 blk, 2.6 to, 1.8 pf and 15.8 pts in 38 minutes a night. Nice numbers for a new superstar. His per minute score according to my formula is 1.116
#11: Jason Kidd
3 of 13
By far the oldest player on the list at age 37, but he's producing like he's 27. He is averaging 5.0 reb, 11.8 ast, 2.5 stl, 0.5 blk, 2.5 to, 2.8 pf and 9.3 pts in 34 minutes a night. His per minute production score is 1.135.
#10: Pau Gasol
4 of 13
Gasol is the man who does everything for L.A. He was hyped out of the Finals MVP last year. Will the same happen this year? I doubt it. He is averaging 11.0 reb, 4.4 ast, 0.4 stl, 1.6 blk, 2.0 to, 2.6 pf and 23.8 pts in 37.4 minutes per night. His production per minute score is 1.150, so far.
#9: Monta Ellis
5 of 13
This guy has been shooting the lights out, and much more. He is averaging 4.3 reb, 6.0 ast, 2.0 stl, 0.3 blk, 3.0 to, 3.3 pf and 30.0 pts in 38.3 minutes. Nice numbers. His per minute score is 1.162.
#8: John Wall

This rookie is awesome and may turn out to be one of the greatest PG's ever if the stats from his first few ever NBA games are any indication. He is averaging 2.7 reb, 10.3 ast, 4.0 stl, 0.0 blk, 4.7 to, 3.0 pf and 23.7 pts in 40.7 minutes per night. His production per minute score is 1.162.
#7: Luis Scola
7 of 13
This is seemingly the only guy on Houston who cares. He is blowing minds with his production because no one knew he was this good. Well, I guess someone did: Him. He is averaging 14.5 reb, 2.8 ast. 0.5 stl, 1.0 blk, 1.5 to, 2.3 pf and 22.8 pts in 36.0 minutes a night. His production per minute score is 1.169.
#6: Rajon Rondo
8 of 13
He is now for sure Boston's best player. He is averaging 6.0 reb, 16.4 ast, 2.6 stl, 0.2 blk, 4.0 to, 1.4 pf and 11.6 pts in 41.6 minutes per night. His production per minute score is so far 1.216
#5: Russell Westbrook
9 of 13
We all thought K. Durant would be at the top representing OKC but it is Westbrook who is by far the most productive player so far this season. Durant will soon catch up, but it is early on. He is averaging 6.0 reb, 7.0 ast, 2.5 stl, 0.5 blk, 2.3 to, 2.5 pf and 20.8 pts in 24.5 minutes a night. His production score is 1.217
#4: Kobe Bryant
10 of 13
The triple double he had vs. Sac. brought him from #14 to #4. That is how early on in the season it is. One good game can really push you up. Bryant is averaging 6.8 reb, 5.0 ast, 0.6 stl, 0.0 blk, 2.2 to, 1.4 pf and 25.0 pts in 32.0 minutes per night. Just imagine if he played defense anymore! His production per minute score early is 1.231
#3: Derrick Rose
11 of 13
No Bull#@*% this year so far from Rose. The Bull is averaging 5.0 reb, 8.7 ast, 1.0 stl, 1.0 blk, 5.0 to, 3.0 pf and 27.7 pts in 35.3 minutes per night. His production per minute is 1.306
#2: Chris Paul
12 of 13
Another awesome game from Paul has brought to Hornets to a great start. Paul is averaging 6.3 reb, 9.0 ast, 1.8 stl, 0.3 blk, 1.3 to, 1.8 pf and 21.3 pts in 35.0 minutes a night. His production per minute score is 1.329
#1 Dwight Howard
13 of 13
Howard is exceeding expectations so far - again, but since he is playing limited time due to team success it is going by sort of unnoticed. He is averaging 11.0 reb, 0.7 ast, 1.3 stl, 4.0 blk, 2.3 to, 3.3 pf and 20.0 pts in only 27.0 minutes per game so far! His production per minute score according to my formula is an NBA high 1.387!!!
If he stays at this rate there is not reason he shouldn't be NBA MVP this year.
