NFL Week 9 Bleacher Report Awards: Brett Favre Wins, Donovan McNabb 'Honored'
The NFL Week 9 Bleacher Report Awards are here for your reading enjoyment. Brett Favre and Donovan McNabb all received awards this week, and LaDainian Tomlinson also makes an appearance.
These awards cover the entire spectrum of performances, the good and the bad.
With Eli Manning idle this week, can Peyton win the Manning of the Week Award?
Read on to find out...
Milestone Of The Week Award: LaDainian Tomlinson
1 of 11
While there was very little else remarkable about Sunday's game, LaDainian Tomlinson passed 13,000 rushing yards during the game, another milestone in a great career.
Week 9 MVP Award: Matthew Stafford
2 of 11
Matthew Stafford, coming off of a shoulder injury, came out and threw for 212 yards and four touchdowns against the Washington Redskins.
The Lions are poised to make their presence felt in the NFC North again, and Matthew Stafford is one of the main reasons.
Worst Wind Judgment: Nick Folk
3 of 11
Nick Folk has one job, judge the wind and adjust his kicking motion accordingly.
As you can tell by the Jets squadoosh on the scoreboard yesterday, Folk didn't do a very good job dealing with the wind in his home stadium.
Worst Excuse For A Benching: Mike Shanahan
4 of 11
Donovan McNabb was benched for the Redskins final two series versus the Detroit Lions.
After the game, head coach Mike Shanahan said it was because he felt Rex Grossman was more comfortable running the two-minute drill than McNabb was.
Okay, you go ahead and tell yourself that.
This isn't to defend McNabb, who has been anything but great this season, but he gives the Redskins the best chance to win the game over Grossman any day.
Kellen Winslow (Sr.) Award: Antonio Gates
5 of 11
Antonio Gates had 123 yards receiving and caught his ninth touchdown of the year. In his eighth season, Gates is on his way to having one of the best years of his career.
The "Ouch, That Hurt!" Award: Brett Favre
6 of 11
While I don't often feel bad for guys like Brett Favre, his skin looked as gray as his hair as he was carted off the field to receive eight stitches in his chin.
We're giving Favre an honorary award for taking a SHOT on Sunday. As they say on TV, Favre got "JACKED UP!"
Who ARE Those Guys? Award: Oakland Raiders
7 of 11
The Oakland Raiders have been a bit of a punchline for the rest of the league the last few years, but after the last two weeks, they are a punchline no more.
Between Darren McFadden's legs and the Raiders defense overwhelming opponents, the Raiders now look like they could be in the playoff picture.
Hot Seat Award: Wade Phillips
8 of 11
Wade Phillips seems to be a dead man walking after the Cowboy's dismal start, and Jerry Jones comment he wouldn't fire Phillips during the season isn't exactly a ringing endorsement.
Phillips is in the job until Jones can find someone else he thinks is more capable, and if that happens tomorrow, then Phillips is history.
The Derek Anderson Award For Worst-Timed Interception: Derek Anderson
9 of 11
Carson Palmer was a close runner-up for this award, but the Bengals have more to worry about than quarterback play at the moment.
The Cardinals decided Max Hall wasn't getting the job done. Fair enough, he's a rookie and still learning the game. Then they put Derek Anderson in.
Derek Anderson has been crumbling under pressure since facing the aforementioned Bengals late in the 2007 season with the playoffs on the line.
With the game close, and Anderson needing to make the big play, he threw the ball where it shouldn't have gone, to the surprise of no one who's ever watched Anderson play.
Manning Of The Week Award: David Garrard
10 of 11
Eli Manning isn't playing this week, and Peyton doesn't play until after the awards are handed out, so sorry Peyton!
David Garrard had a near-perfect QB rating of 157.8 while throwing for more than 200 yards and four touchdowns. He did all of this despite getting sacked three times and losing a fumble.
Congratulations, David!
Best Halloween Costume: The Dallas Cowboys
11 of 11
Who are these guys dressed in Dallas Cowboys costumes this year?
The Cowboys now are 1-6 on the year, and it's difficult to say when they'll get their next win. If one aspect of the team starts working, another one breaks.
The defense can't stop other teams from scoring, and the offense now has more questions than answers while waiting for Tony Romo to return, not that he's really been an answer this year.
