Sidney Crosby Reigns Supreme in Fantasy NHL's Week 3 Surging Players

Brandon GalvinOct 22, 2010

Analysis of the past week’s hottest, surging players in Fantasy NHL at each position.

One player per position who is either matching or exceeding his preseason fantasy expectations.

No player is included or excluded based on name value, simply who is performing towards the top of his respective position.

Defenseman: Kris Letang, Pittsburgh Penguins

Letang should be running up defensive ranks after his past week.

With two goals and four assists in his past three games, the young defender is plus-eight. He has an outstanding four game streak of having plus/minus of plus-two, which is simply outstanding. Of his 19 total shots taken this season, 12 have come in the past four games.

Letang is getting it done in multiple categories and looks to be an early steal for his fantasy owners.

Goalie: Tim Thomas, Boston Bruins

Thomas has been on fire to open the season with four total wins and three in the past week. Although he has yet to record a shutout since his 2010 debut, he is averaging just one goal against him in his last three starts.

He has 104 total saves and a .972 save percentage.

Until Thomas goes cold, get him in your fantasy lineups immediately.

Left Wing: Daniel Sedin, Vancouver Canucks

Sedin is getting it done for Vancouver.

He has 10 shots on goal in the past week and his four goals rank second among left wingers to only Chicago’s Patrick Sharp who has five.

He also has one assist and is plus-two plus/minus.

Sedin is currently on fire despite his team only having two wins. Clearly Sedin feels the pressure to get the job done for his team, which is great news for his fantasy owners.

One of the more underrated players in the league as far as I’m concerned, Perry has been an integral part of the Ducks’ limited success to open the season.

The Ducks’ early season woes are not because of Perry’s play.

Perry is plus-four plus/minus this week with two goals and five assists. He has two penalty minutes and 13 shots on goal. With seven points in the past week, expect Perry to continue his hot play next week.

Look for Perry’s opportunities to continue to be there throughout the season as he provides a great return for his early round pick.

Center: Sidney Crosby, Pittsburgh Penguins

Crosby is quickly returning to mid season form and stating his claim once again as the best player in all of the NHL.

Crosby currently has a four game streak with one assist recorded. In his past three games, Crosby has an amazing five goals scored and is plus-three plus/minus.

Crosby is shooting the puck well and often as he leads all centers with 24 shots on goal in the past week.

It will be fun to see if Crosby can keep up this torrid pace as his team eyes another championship.
