The Washington Redskins Will Expose the Problem-Filled Green Bay Packers

The Green Bay Packers travel to Washington to take on the new-look Redskins this Sunday. The problems for the Packers start with a wounded defense. 

In the secondary, safety Morgan Burnett is out for the season with a torn ACL, and Nick Collins has a bad knee and is unsure if he can go. Backups Derrick Martin and Charlie Peprah are hurting and rookie nickelback Sam Shields might miss another game, which means the pass defense is hobbled for this game. At inside linebacker, Nick Barnett is expected to miss the rest of the season and his backup, Brandon Chillar, is on the mend with a shoulder injury. This is not good news for a defense that is allowing 5.2 yards per carry and is ranked 31st in the NFL.

The Redskins will be without the services of running back Clinton Portis for this game but have a more than adequate fill in with Ryan Torain who had 18 carries for 70 yards in the last game.

The defense is not the only problem for the Packers; the offense is struggling too.

Aaron Rodgers is the strength of this team and a shining star for the Packers offense, but he has no running game to keep opposing defenses honest. Since Ryan Grant was lost for the year due to injury, the Packers have not found a suitable replacement. Brandon Jackson is not working and is averaging just three yards per carry, and the latest rumor is the Packers are looking outside of the organization for a replacement.

Donovan McNabb is making all the difference for the Washington Redskins. He is a true leader on the field and inspires his team to play up to a professional level every week. The team is buying into head coach Mike Shanahan’s philosophy to run the ball, and it is paying off.

The Skins will be able to establish the run against the Packers defense and this will allow Mcnabb to use play-action to move down the field. On defense the Skns can focus on the pass almost completely ignoring the run since it does not provide a threat.

The Packers are 1-4 against the spread (ATS) in their last five games as a favorite of 0.5-3.0, and the Redskins are deadly home dogs that get the upset win.
