Washington Wizards: The Team of the Future?

Kevon RobinsonOct 9, 2010

Usually when you think of successful teams in the upcoming future, you think of the Oklahoma City Thunder.

It may be true that they have the most potential to be a top-notch team, but I think we are leaving out a team that is currently under-looked: The Washington Wizards.

Many people think there is no future for the Wizards if Gilbert Arenas leaves like he has stated after the preseason opener against the Mavericks.

The truth is...

The Wizards' future will be delayed—at most—if Gilbert Arenas doesn't move on.

I think that ultimately the Wizards' production now and in the future revolves around Andray Blatche and his presence in the post.  Blatche will most likely be the top scorer on the Wizards squad next year...or whenever Arenas leaves town.

I believe that the Wizards will have one of the top five PGs, PFs, and centers in the NBA in a few years when this generation of players starts to rise above the past generation.

John Wall is still transitioning from college to the NBA.  I think the fact that the range from the arc to the paint is larger than in college is the reason why Wall misses so much now in the Summer League and in preseason.  If you saw any Kentucky games last year, you would know that players didn't guard him like Rondo, they guarded him with tough "in-your-face defense" because he would knock down a college mid-range jumper or a college three-pointer.

The possible PG/C combo in the next couple of years or so should be John Wall and JaVale McGee.

McGee's development will be the judge of whether it will work out or not.

Although he makes some knucklehead mistakes, you have to love his athleticism and will to get as high as he can to grab an alley-oop and throw it down.

Just For Fun: Rivalries to Look Out for

John Wall vs. Derrick Rose

This matchup between two PGs who are similar will be fun to watch when they play this year.

Andray Blatche vs. Kevin Garnett

Many people saw Kevin Garnett trying to fire up Andray Blatche in their game against each other last year.  Blatche was disappointed to see his idol yell in his face...well Garnett receives the "Jerk" Award.

JaVale McGee vs. DeMarcus Cousins

I think this matchup will be interesting because I know somewhere in JaVale McGee's head, he thinks he needs to beat John Wall's old dominating big man to prove that he has an upgrade in the transition to the NBA.
