Carmelo Anthony Trade Rumors: Why The Sacramento Kings Need To Get Him
Carmelo Anthony has been the subject of numerous trade rumors for weeks now and it's time for the Sacramento Kings to join the fray.
For any team, adding a player of Anthony's talent would be a huge move and give it a serious boost in the win column. For the Sacramento Kings, acquiring Anthony would bring them back to relevance for the first time since the Chris Webber era. He would give them a dynamic scorer, but more importantly, a strong leadership presence on the court.
Currently the Kings are Tyreke Evans' team, but right now Evans is a little too green to carry this team to the playoffs. Surrounding him are a slew of athletic forwards including Carl Landry, Omri Casspi, and Jason Thompson.
The biggest offseason addition likely came through the draft as the Kings selected forward Demarcus Cousins out of the University of Kentucky. Cousins is chock full of potential, but has been labeled a hot-head for often being overly emotional on and off the court.
The duo of Evans and Cousins could mean a lot of long-term success for the franchise, but it is unlikely that they will receive enough support to compete for the playoffs this year.
If the Kings could find a way to pry Anthony from the Nuggets—without giving up one of those pieces—they would be able to put three dynamic scorers out on the court every night.
One foreseeable problem is that there might not be enough shots for all of them. However I think that both Evans and Cousins will be able to defer to the veteran Anthony who will certainly deserve most of the shots.
This would allow Evans to focus more on ball distribution and Cousins to focus on rebounding.
All these pieces could spur the Kings up into playoff contention. Because of this, it becomes imperative that the Maloofs try to see if they can make a deal. It's known that while Anthony prefers a trade to New York, the Nuggets are trying their hardest to avoid one.
The door is open for the Kings to sneak in and complete a trade for Anthony. Until they do so, they are doomed to another year of irrelevance.
