Top 10 Teams With Best Shot To Win It All!

Jacob McCallisterOct 4, 2010

With Team Camps in progress its time to look now into the crystal ball and see who has what it takes to win the NBA title this year. Some familiar and new faces come to the surface, Who will be this years Thunder and can LA make it 3 in a row? Here is this years top 10 contenders, feel free to weigh in and share your views and opinions!

Honorable Mention

First for the honorable mention: Teams not quite ready to be serious contenders but competitive!

- Milwaukee Bucks: The pieces are there with Bogut, Jennings, Salmons, and the addition of Drew Gooden. This team will be fun to watch along with a rising star in Jennings but its too early to tell if they will put that talent together for a full season.

- Atlanta Hawks: Here is a good team but not a great team. Did they over pay for Joe Johnson just to stay competitive? Also rumblings are that Crawford is available, so with all these questions look for the Hawks to finish no higher then 5th in the newly loaded East.

- Memphis Grizzlies: This years OKC Thunder? Time will tell but there is no denying the young talent in place. ZBO, Mr Mayo, The Lil Gasol (just age lol), Rudy Gay, and a wild card in Xavier Henry. Signing late may hurt Henry but he may prove to be a hybrid type of player in the molding of Micheal Redd and Paul Pierce.

- Phoenix Suns: No Amare No Problem? not so fast. Though the Suns will stay in the playoff hunt they have a lot of proving to do this year minus the big man in the middle.

- LA Clippers: Here is my out of left field sleeper. The talent is there with Davis, Kaman, Gordon, Griffin and Aminu. Im excited to see this core of young bucks put it together for a season.

#10. Denver (If Melo Stays)

At number 10 you have the Denver Nuggets, now hold on I know this is a gutsy choice considering all the uncertainty in the Rockies. If Melo stays along with Martin and Smith, Denver will be a good team. If Melo packs up and moves on well sorry Denver looks like its time to rebuild for the future. This one may get interesting with it looking more and more likely that Melo will be in tow until the trade deadline.

#9. Portland

Now with Portland you honestly could have a team that is finally ready to turn the corner to greatness or to turn the corner to rehab. I find Portland as one of the hardest teams in the NBA to peg. If Roy stays healthy for a season and if we even see a glimpse of what Oden was supposed to be, along with Aldridge you could have a dominant force at hand. On the flip side what if Roy gets hurt again, and Oden continues with path toward #1 bust? I hope he lives up to his billing the NBA needs another Shaq besides Howard, but its looking bleek. Who has a time machine so Portland can go back and draft that Durant kid I hear he is doing well!

Has father time finally taken the gas out of Duncan and Company? Well this will be the year to finally see if thats the case or not. The Spurs are a safe pick year after year but lets be honest year after year we doubt them more. Dynasty's come and go and this one may be on the go. Still enough talent to make noise but unless Jefferson, Ginobli, Duncan, and Parker put it all together for one more run, it may be a long time before any trophies make it to the River Walk.

#7. Chicago Bulls

Future beast of the east or surprise team to win the east this year? I'd bet more on ultra competitive now and possible team of the future. Noah just inked a nice new deal, Deng is around, Boozer signed, Korver is the new 3 point assassin and oh yeah Mr Derrick Rose is running the show. With all those elements to work with you have on scary talented team. Talented enough to win it all? Well not yet but talented enough to upset a higher seed in the playoffs? You bet, good things are to come to the Windy City.

#6. Dallas Mavericks

The Dallas Mavericks one of the most succsessful teams of the last 5 years and no rings to show for it. Will this be the year? Ill go with a big maybe. Dirk resigned to return to a fairly loaded squad, with in my opinion the best 6th man in the NBA the Jett Terry. Cuban has put together a stellar cast but a lot hinges on the production of guys like Caron Butler before I push Dallas into the upper cast of the NBA.

#5. Orlando Magic

Superman will lead Orlando to the promise land if and only if Howard becomes more of an offensive threat and Lewis starts earning that big contract. The Magic are very talented as they have been the past 3 years, but that talent is still without a ring. Keeping Reddick was smart but pricey, things are heating up in Florida and the Magic have the talent level to match it, but will they time will tell. For now they remain a serious player but not quite a favorite.

#4. Oklahoma City Thunder

The trendy pick to challenge LA in the West, led by Durant, Green, and Westbrook. Mark my words Durant will win a ring or two or more. OKC is the future face of the NBA, sorry Seattle could of been you. Kevin Durant is a beast that will not be tamed, add in Westbrook, Green, Ibaka, Harden (who will blow up this year),Collison, Kristic, Thabo, and Aldrich. Not to mention Mullens who could end up being worth the project he is, not long ago he was rivals #1 prospect. That is one loaded young squad, with the sky being the limit. Now as amazing as they will be they are in my opinion a year away form challenging the Lakers for Western dominance.

#3. Boston Celtics

LOS ANGELES, CA - JUNE 17: Head coach Doc Rivers of the Boston Celtics talks with Paul Pierce #34 while taking on the Los Angeles Lakers in Game Seven of the 2010 NBA Finals at Staples Center on June 17, 2010 in Los Angeles, California. NOTE TO USER: Us

Lets do a quick talent check here Rondo, Pierce, Garnett, Allen, Davis, Robinson, 2 Oneal's, West, Bradley, Perkins (when healthy), hmmm championship calibur for sure. This years most underrated team will be out to show last years pushing LA to 7 games was no fluke. Age is a factor there is no hiding that, but the window is open but close to shut for Boston. I give it 2 years fro Boston to have a chance at another ring, thats their window simple and plain. The Oneal's will provide depth maybe the 2 together can make for 1 former self, but NBA take this from me don't sleep on the Celtics.

#2. Miami Thrice

Yes they are the most hated team in recent memory, but they are loaded to the max. Lebron, Wade, Bosh is enough to make your mouth water but add in a solid supporting cast and you have a legit shot at multiple titles, possibly one this year. Can Chalmers become the next Rondo feeding the new Big3? Its possible, and will Lebron finally hook his buddy Big Z with a ring? Yes very possible. There is one way to silence all haters, and that way is to win it all!

#1. No Surprise Here Lakers!

Kobe in Co have to be the favorite until someone shows us otherwise. The talent is still in tact and they still have that one guy, you know that Kobe fella who is pretty legit I'd say. Kobe is the next Jordan and another ring will solidify that thought. The Thunder will come hunting in the West and Boston or Miami will await in the Finals, but LA is the team to beat, nothing less to say here. Oh maybe one more thing no negative I love Kobe comments, because I am a huge Celtics fan!
