Breaking: Bucks Sign Brian Skinner, Is This What They Needed?
Bucks sign Brian Skinner.
The Bucks announced today that they signed Brian Skinner.
Skinner is one of 6 Milwaukee big men, Andrew Bogut, Drew Gooden, Jon Brockman, Larry Sanders, Ersan Illyasova, and Luc Richard Mbah a Moute.
The Bucks had talked about signing Erick Dampier, guess that won't be happening. But you never know with John Hammonds.
If you ask me, I think the Bucks should have signed Dampier instead of Skinner.
Brian Skinner has played in Milwaukee for two total seasons in the past. In 2003-2004 he averaged 10.5 points per game and 7.3 rebounds. Pretty good stats. If he could play like that again that could really help the Bucks out. But in 2006-2007 he averaged 4.4 points and 5.7 rebounds. Not too great of numbers. And that year was not a fluke, because in the years after his numbers have been the same.
Last season he played in 16 games, due to an injury. Averaging 1.6 points and 1.7 rebounds.
On the other hand, there is Erick Dampier.
He is coming off of a 6 point, 7.3 rebound average a game. Better than Skinner. He also has more playoff experience and is a true veteran.
Erick has played in 57 playoff games, while Brian has only played in 21. If the Bucks are looking to make it farther in the playoffs, Dampier would have been the better choice.
Skinner should help the Bucks this season. I don't think he is a bad player, I just think the could have settled for the better player, Erick Dampier.
