Lebron James and Company Have First 2010 Heat Practice: Big 3's Journey Begins
Today, the Miami Heat held their first official practice with LeBron James and Chris Bosh on the roster. This is the most any of us have heard about an NBA practice since Allen Iverson uttered his now famous line, "We talkin' 'bout practice?!?"
Yes Allen, we are talking about practice. This is the most anticipated season in NBA history and people simply can't wait any longer for the regular season. What can we do to satisfy the insatiable hunger we all have for some roundball? Let's start by following ESPN's coverage of Miami's training camp.
Josh Elliott, Jon Barry, and Jalen Rose will be providing the always "razor-sharp" analysis we've come to expect from the worldwide leader in sports. Did any of these experts say anything we haven't heard for the last two and a half months? In a word, no.
What is noteworthy about all this, is the couple minutes of actual practice footage we were able to see. The entire practice revolved around defense. There was a lot of time spent on a drill that is known as "defensive cutthroat."
It is fitting for the Heat to start by working on defense since they should have little trouble putting the ball in the hole. To live up to their full potential, they must be able to formulate some chemistry on the defensive end of the court.
They will find the winning formula sooner than later. These three are friends and the idea of this union has been in the back of their minds since the 2008 Olympics. They've been waiting patiently for the "summer of LeBron" and now their time to dominate is tantalizingly close.
This summer, LeBron James became just the second reigning MVP to switch teams during the offseason. He told us he'd be taking his "talents to South Beach" to join Chris Bosh and Dwyane Wade. Together, they form what could be one of the greatest trios of all time.
Last season, James, Wade, and Chris Bosh were ranked one, two and four in player efficiency rating (a stat that measures a player's overall effectiveness). Putting them all in one lineup could result in more versatility than any of us have ever witnessed before.
Without playing a single minute of NBA, regular season basketball together, this big three has already solidified Miami as one of the top three teams in the league.
ESPN's coverage of training camp will whet our appetite but the hunger won't be satisfied until the actual games are played.
Until then, here is the video of ESPN's coverage of day one.
