The Melo Talks, Chicago still in contentions? Much more
This past Friday, there was a proposed deal between the four teams discussed a four-way trade that the New Jersey acquire Carmelo Anthony. In fact, the deal was actually almost a done deal but the hold up is not from Carmelo Anthony the hold up is from the Denver Nuggets. But of course that is according to some reports, while there are reports that Carmelo Anthony agree to an extension with the New Jersey Nets while other reports that he have not make a decision with an extension to play for the Nets. Gotta love the media conflict reports don’t we?
Anyways, if you have live in a cave or under a rock that you have no idea what are the details about the four-way trade or don’t know there was a deal that look like it was going down. Well, you are in luck, here is the details:
Per Marc Stein:
"The proposed deal, as ESPN.com reported earlier Friday, would also involve Utah and Charlotte and is poised to deliver prized Nets rookie Derrick Favors, Jazz veteran Andrei Kirilenko and multiple future first-round picks to Denver in exchange for their franchise player.
Sources told ESPN.com that the deal, which has yet to be finalized, would send former All-Star point guard Devin Harris to Charlotte, with Bobcats forward Boris Diaw moving to Utah. The Bergen Record reported Friday afternoon that the Nets would also receive Bobcats guard D.J. Augustin, with New Jersey’s Jarvis Hayes accompanying Harris to Charlotte in a sign-and-trade. Nets swingman Quinton Ross would go to Utah and Denver would get a 1-to-7 protected first-round pick in 2012 that New Jersey received from Golden State.
"
A four-way trade now hit a snag, in other words the trade was put on hold. As I mentioned from above, the hold up some say it’s Denver but other say it’s Carmelo Anthony what to believe? I will say and guess that Denver are the ones that holding out the deal. Honestly I am having a hard time seeing Carmelo Anthony agree to a contract extension with the worst team in the league from last season the New Jersey Nets. Sure they might be a slightly better this season compare to last season but the key word slightly even if Carmelo Anthony was traded to the New Jersey Nets while the team may improve but there will be a borderline playoffs. Now if they have a lot of faith that they can get Chris Paul or Deron Williams in two years then all power to them but that is a no guaranteed if they could get one of them.
It is either Carmelo Anthony want to be close to New York since New Jersey Nets will move to Brookyn in two years. But if that is the case, then why not just wait until you become a free agent next summer and rightfully sign there? He can always wait to see if Denver can work a trade with the New York Knicks which one of the top two teams he preferred traded to.
That is something to think about, why New Jersey? No offense to the fans and the organization but that team is not ready to compete yet sure they do have some nice piece like Brook Lopez, Anthony Morrow, Devin Harris(If he isn’t dealt.), and Terrance Williams. But they are not there yet, like I say before even if the team waited out for Chris Paul or Deron Williams in two years which is the time they become free agents there is no guaranteed they’ll able to sign them at all. Here is something else to think about, how committed Carmelo Anthony wants to win? Before I give my insight to that question, Kobe Bryant give an advice to Carmelo Anthony which is a good advice I may add.
Per Marc Spears:
"Bryant’s advice to ‘Melo?
Don’t leave just to leave.
“We’ll see if he signs a reasonable extension and if he’s 100 percent happy that it’s where he wants to go,” Bryant told Yahoo! Sports Saturday. “If not, don’t make a move just to get out of the situation. …Make sure it’s a move that you’re very happy in and you’re comfortable with.”
Bryant said he talked with Anthony “a couple days ago” and understood how a move to the Nets would be appealing because of the team’s talented young center, Brook Lopez(notes), and new Russian billionaire owner Mikhail Prokhorov. The Nets have rebuilt themselves after winning a league-low 12 games last season while the Nuggets lost in the first round of the playoffs one year after falling to Bryant’s Lakers in the Western Conference finals.
"
He is right make sure you are happy, be more comfortable, and be with a better situation than Denver. As it stands right now, he is better of staying with Denver than playing for the New Jersey Nets if he really is serious about winning than Chicago the best situation for him and that is no homer talk, that is fact. Unless of course teams like Orlando may jump in which rumor earlier that may consider trading for Carmelo Anthony.
As for the four-way trade, I have my doubts that is going to happen for the reason as I explained above and for other reasons is that other teams more like Utah and Charlotte may lose patience with Denver that holding out the deal. Let’s rewind back now, reports all indicate that Carmelo Anthony agrees to the extension but according to yahoo sports Carmelo have second thought.
"As Carmelo Anthony(notes) implored Denver management to keep exploring deals that would land him with the New York Knicks, the blockbuster trade that would’ve sent the All-Star forward to the New Jersey Nets has reached a perilous crossroads, league sources told Yahoo! Sports on Saturday night.
Anthony’s willingness to accept a contract extension with the Nets has begun to deteriorate over the weekend, and sources said at least some part of his uneasiness has come from conversations with former Nets players around the league. Despite the Nets’ new ownership and a new arena, Anthony has been regaled with tales of empty seats, fan apathy and second-class citizenship in the shadows of the Knicks and Madison Square Garden. Already, he had been uneager about joining a team that wasn’t close to contention.
“He’s having second thoughts on Jersey,” one league source said. “He’s pushed [Denver] to explore other options.”
"
The same article, the New York Knicks are working a deal to trade for Carmelo Anthony, like I say the Knicks have a better shot signing Carmelo Anthony when he become free agent next summer than trading for him. Since they do not have the assets, especially with no draft picks but you never know they maybe able to pull it off but time will tell.
Anyways, according to Ken Berger the Denver Nuggets are exploring other options, most recently they have discussion with the Philadelphia 76ers possible trading Carmelo Anthony for Andre Iguodala:
"Sources say the Nuggets have been taking full advantage of the holding pattern in talks to listen to offers from other teams – though executives with knowledge of the situation do not believe a better offer has presented itself. The Bulls and Clippers, two teams with attractive assets and a realistic chance of persuading Anthony to sign an extension with them, have not progressed beyond the packages they initially brought to Denver’s attention. Some signs Sunday pointed to the revival of talks between Denver and Philadelphia with Andre Iguodala going to the Nuggets, but there was no signal from Anthony’s camp that he’d softened in his opposition to bringing his talents to South Philly.
Another player the Nuggets have targeted as a viable asset to recover in an Anthony trade, Anderson Varejao, remains a long shot for the same reason; Anthony isn’t going to Cleveland, the city that superstar LeBron James fled in July as though the Cuyahoga River were on fire.
"
First thing foremost, will Carmelo Anthony even agrees to an extension with the Philadelphia 76ers? I doubt it but it may not matter because Denver could still trade him just to get something in return but will a team like Philadelphia 76ers even agree to a trade if Carmelo Anthony did not agree to an extension? Again, I doubt a team will even make a trade for a player who become a free agent next summer and do not even sign a contract extension with the team. That is to much of a risk, they may get nothing in return and they pretty much trade their good asset for a one year rental. But of course there maybe teams take a chance for a one year rental.
How about the Cleveland Cavaliers? Can you imagine that after losing Lebron James they do indeed acquire Carmelo Anthony but not just a one year rental but got him convince to sign an extension? Talk about getting Lebron James back, that will be crazy but I doubt that is going to happen after-all it is just Cleveland but hey you just never know. I am not convinced with the Cavs trading for Carmelo Anthony though, they do not have any assets that Denver may want maybe draft picks. But I doubt Cleveland will even trade their draft picks for a one year rental only way they trade their draft pick is if he sign a contract extension with the team.
Now with the four way trade put on hold which there is a chance that the deal may get pull off, while the Denver Nuggets exploring other options that there is a chance the Chicago Bull could still be in a contention to bring Carmelo Anthony to Chi-Town. Here is the scoop which is reported by JerseyChaser.com:
Per JerseyChaser.com:
"Our source close to the situation in Chicago has informed us that the Bulls are feverishly negotiating a trade with three teams, putting together a deal that would bring them Anthony without trading Joakim Noah.
"
It will be great if the Chicago Bulls can get Carmelo Anthony without giving up Joakim Noah but the problem is who the third team are willing to take Luol Deng? The Denver Nuggets do not want Luol Deng, so the Bulls looking for a third team are willing to take Luol Deng and his contract. Doug Thonus who wrote the Chicago Bulls Confidential Blog, have his podcast show yesterday which he discuss about Carmelo Anthony situation and possible how Chicago could get back into this. To listen to it, just click here.
Anyways, he makes a good valid point that if the trade don’t go through with New Jersey and Denver are still willing to trade Carmelo Anthony that the Chicago Bulls are the next team that have the best assets than the New York Knicks. Well, the key thing is unlike the New York Knicks the Chicago Bulls could offered multiple draft picks while the Knicks do not have any draft picks until 2014.
He also mention that the Chicago Bulls did a smart thing not to include Joakim Noah in a trade to bring Carmelo Anthony to Chicago, he mentions that just in case Denver can not find any teams and the deal with the four team trade falls apart. Chicago are the next team have the best assets to make an offer for Denver without giving up Joakim Noah, they could offer Taj Gibson and draft picks to Denver or include James Johnson if they want. Of course they send Luol Deng a third team assuming they find a third team, both the Cavs and Raptors have a trade exceptions which I believe is big enough to take on Luol Deng’s contract.
Question remain is, are they willing to take Luol Deng and his contract? It is maybe not his contract maybe they value his health which is a concern. Even a third team willing to take Luol Deng that Denver may not willing to make a deal unless Chicago include Joakim Noah who could be a deal breaker just saying. Listen to Doug podcast, the link I give you above for more details he have a valid points but again the Denver Nuggets.
I know this, media day which start today from most teams is going to be a very interesting day in fact this week will interesting. Lot of speculation regarding Carmelo Anthony, will he be traded before the season? Some reports which I can not find a link right now but they are saying that there is a 40% chance he gets traded, now other reports say better than 50% chance that a trade will complete in the next 24 to 48 hours.
"A source connected to the ongoing trade discussions involving Carmelo Anthony said that there is “better than a 50 percent chance” that a trade will be completed within the next 24-48 hours.
William Wesley met with Jay-Z last week in New York to help set the stage for Anthony’s arrival with the Nets, said a person with direct knowledge of the meeting.
While the Nuggets want to talk to Anthony directly, sources familiar with his position think that the team’s attempt to change his mind about leaving Denver will be futile.
Any positive comments Anthony may make to the media on Monday are likely to be spin rather than actually indicating an open mind about remaining in Denver.
Meanwhile, the Nuggets are not sure they want to accept Derrick Favors as the centerpiece in a trade of their superstar.
