Why Kevin Durant Will Win the NBA Scoring Title Again
It's no secret that Kevin Durant is one of the best players in the NBA today. Any doubters that were out there were surely convinced after his unbelievable performance at the FIBA World Championships this year in Turkey.
The Oklahoma City Thunder's most potent weapon showed the whole world that the national team would do just fine with him in the alpha dog role. Now, he's poised to show why he can lead the league in scoring again as he asserts himself as the most dominant scorer in the NBA.
Now, most people might be saying, 'What about LeBron?' While it's clear that LeBron is still the best player in the league with the most polished all-around game, nobody fills up the scoring column like KD. Not to mention, LeBron has taken to playing alongside two other superstars in Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh, who will undoubtedly reduce his scoring numbers.
The fact that he won the scoring title last year does not assure him the title this year; there are too many other dominant scorers in the NBA to assume that it's Kevin Durant's to lose; Kobe Bryant, Dwyane Wade, and Carmelo Anthony can all put up 30-point games in their sleep.
That being said, it's Kevin Durant's unique situation that affords him the best ability to win the 2010-2011 NBA scoring title. His supporting cast is perfect for his game. Surrounding him are some of the best young talents in the game- talents who are fully aware that they are playing second, third, and fourth-fiddle to the University of Texas product who is running the show.
Russell Westbrook, through last season and the FIBA World Championships, has shown that he should be in the discussion when it comes to the best young point guards in the NBA. Rajon Rondo, who wore that crown for a time, failed to make the team for the FIBA World Championships as a result of Westbrook's electrifying game.
With Westbrook distributing the ball and drawing attention as a scorer, Kevin Durant will flourish as the leading scorer in the NBA this coming season.
Jeff Green is another young star in the making on the Oklahoma City roster. He began to develop last season even more as his scoring improved and his outside shot became a factor. His ability to rebound and stretch the floor will open things up in the middle for Durant, who is one of the best slashers in the NBA.
Serge Ibaka is not exactly a household name, but surely everyone in the Durant household knows who he is. He brings an unstoppable energy to the floor with his shot blocking abilities and tenacity on the offensive and defensive glass. He put up decent numbers in limited minutes last season, but expect him to improve in nearly all categories as Durant feeds off of his contributions.
Kevin Durant. The man with no nickname has been surrounded by a cast of young talent that will allow him to win the scoring title by at least three points. The players on his team are all young, energetic, and most importantly, selfless. They realize, as the rest of the world does too, that Kevin Durant is an unstoppable force of scoring prowess that was simply born to get buckets.
