NBA Power Rankings: Top Five Free Agents That Can Make an Impact on the Bench
All of the teams are set and done and the 2010-2011 NBA' Season is just around the corner. In arguably the most exciting off season in history, many teams have made some significant changes and we won't know whether they made the right decision or not until October.
We can dream though and as sports fans, that's what we do best. My hope is to bring something a little different by providing the top five free agents that could make an instant impact for various teams. Everyone has talked about the Heat and their new additions, but there haven't been many people who have looked at the "other guys" who usually make their teams glue together.
With that, here are the top five free agents heading into the 2010-2011 NBA' Season, hope you enjoy!
5. Brad Miller, Houston Rockets
1 of 5
Coming in at the #5 spot is Brad Miller. Miller as we know is now a well seasoned veteran who is looking to provide solid back-up minuets for F/C around the league.
To Millers luck, he landed in Houston. Yes, Miller is now a Rocket. This couldn't have gone any better for a player who is looking to make any more money while he still can and with Yao Ming uncertain with his health, Miller could see some serious minuets for the Rockets.
Last season, Miller averaged a solid; 8.8 (PPG), 4.9 (RPG), and 1.9 (APG). I'd say that's very good numbers for a back-up center who has been over the hill for a couple years now. Nonetheless, Miller can still play as a back-up in this league and this was a very good pick up for the Rockets.
I expect Miller to be a key player for the Rockets, maybe even a sixth-man. For a young team with some health issues, Miller is a definite positive.
4. Steve Blake, Los Angeles Lakers
2 of 5
As a Laker' fan it was great to see them pick up a missing puzzle piece. Steve Blake was a perfect match for the Lakers. Blake can provide solid outside shooting, back-up minuets for Fisher, and leadership for the second unit.
Last season Blake averaged an impressive 7.3 (PPG), 4.8 (APG), and 2.3 (RPG). As a guard that doesn't have much athletic ability, or any advantages in quickness or speed, Blake is one of those players that uses his IQ to his advantage and the Lakers will be glad they picked him up.
Heading into this season, I expect to see Blake to share time with Fisher, provide much needed outside shooting, and that he will be a good teammate.
3. Drew Gooden, Milwaukee Bucks
3 of 5
The Bucks have picked up veteran forward, Drew Gooden. Adding Gooden added even more depth to the Bucks' Roster. The already versatile front court with Andrew Bogut and now Gooden, added with Brandon Jennings should make for a very dangerous Bucks' squad.
Last season, Gooden averaged; 10.9 (PPG), 7.7 (RPG), and 0.7 (APG). Gooden has always done well on any team he has played on, though he hasn't been known to be a good teammate, Gooden never does disappoint.
I expect the Bucks to be a dangerous team with adding a veteran player of Drew Gooden.
2. Kyle Korver, Chicago Bulls
4 of 5
Every team should have sought after a young sharp shooter in Kyle Korver. Korver may be a scrub in the sense that all he does is shoot, but he can shoot.
The Bulls will now have all the tools to be contenders this year, they have a great leader/point guard in Derrick Rose, a great forward in Carlos Boozer, and now they have a sharp shooter in Korver.
Last season Korver averaged; 7.2 (PPG), 2.1 (RPG), and 1.7 (APG). With the Jazz, Korver came off the bench and did his job: making open shots. It shouldn't be a big transition from Deron Williams to Derrick Rose and his job should if not be easier.
I expect Korver to shoot well around 40% from the outside and to average around 10 (PPG) for the Bulls. The Bulls should be excited to have him on the team.
1. Mike Miller, Miami Heat
5 of 5
After "The Decision" the only question for the Heat was, who else do they have? Well they now have a great shooter with Mike Miller.
Miller has always been known to be the weird looking guy with long hair that happens to shoot lights out every game. Miller should be a good fit for the Heat, but his age doesn't help with the average age of the Heat.
Last season, Miller averaged; 10.9 (PPG), 6.2 (RPG), and 3.9 (APG). I'd say this proves that he still has his touch.
I expect Miller to be a dark horse for the Heat this season. I can easily see him maintaining his numbers right now which would make the Heat even more dangerous than they already are, so expect Miller to be a candidate for the Sixth-Man of The Year.
