NBA Trade Rumors: 6 Possible Destinations For Carmelo Anthony

James SchmidtSep 22, 2010

It's funny how rumors can change in not just hours but minutes. I mean minutes after I wrote my last article about Melo new rumors were flying through the roof. I decided to spice things up and do a slideshow for this article (woot a picture for Melo for every slide!) I'll be putting the latest rumors for each team in this show. Alright then, here we go again!

New Jersey Nets

The Nets have had a lot of rumors over the past 24 hours. One of them being that they aren't going to trade Brook Lopez for Melo. Lopez is someone the Nuggets really wanted but the Nets have that Favors, Murphy and Humphries deal that's a sure thing right? Nope, the Nets don't want to do that. Then there were rumors saying that Carmelo would not sign an extension with New Jersey, but later a different source said that he had not said whether he would or would not resign with the Nets. Reportedly the Nets have been pushing hard for a 3-4 team deal to get Anthony. It's going to be very interesting to see how this all sorts out, I mean basically the Nets are going on a gut feeling that he will resign with them.

Houston Rockets

Alright so Houston is another team that has be right in the middle of all these rumors. Yesterday rumors came out that the Rockets were not including shooting guard Kevin Martin in trade talks, but a couple of hours later it was said that the Rockets offered a package deal to the Nugs centered around Kevin. According to the Denver Post Houston is in discussions with the Nugs and are dangling Martin out there for a possible trade. The Rockets have plenty of assets and a trade exception gives them the ability to give young players instead of a guy like Shane Battier. Houston is definitely a possibility for the Nuggets.

Chicago Bulls

Sorry Bulls fans, you guys are more or less out of the Carmelo Anthony chase. Your unwillingness to move Joakim Noah (in my opinion a good choice) removes you from contention to obtain Melo's services. The Nuggets want Noah and nothing less than Noah from the Bulls if he were to be traded there. Hey i suppose you can still change your mind about trading Noah, but doubtful.

New York Knicks

Plain and simple, Carmelo Anthony won't be on the Knicks before Febuary. He is not going to be a Knick this season. Reports say the Nuggets have very little interest in what the Knicks have to offer and rightfully so. Who wants Danilo Gallinari, Eddy Curry and a 2014 first round draft pick when you could get such a better package. Probably the least likely landing point for Melo right now.

Golden State Warriors

Really not much of a chance of happening but I thought I'd put it in anyways. The Warriors are an interesting team because they most likely wouldn't get Anthony beyond this upcoming season. Basically would be a rent. I don't know why'd the do it and like I said probably not going to happen but still interesting to think about.

Minnesota Timberwolves

This probably won't happen mainly because other teams have better packages and Melo probably wouldn't resign with the T-Wolves. Still interesting though, just think of how good they would be in a couple of years as their players develop and they get better through the draft. If they got Anthony (unlikely) they would be very good in a couple years.

In my mind the Rockets and Nets are the front-runners for Melo mainly because they are willing to offer things the Nuggets want such as: a young Marketable player (NJ: Harris, Favors) (HOU: Martin, Brooks), expiring contracts (NJ: Murphy, Humphries) (HOU: Jeffries) and draft picks, the Rockets have the better draft picks to give because in the 2011 draft they have the right to swap picks with the Knicks and in 2012 they have the Knicks first round pick (top 5 protected). Definitely will be interesting because supposedly Denver wants to trade him before training camp to keep it from being awkward.
