The Cooling Effect: Why This Offseason Will Not Bring The Heat an NBA Title
Do not fool yourself. Everyone already knows about the Miami Heat's off-season. We've all already heard all those predictions on how they will be the best team of all time, or how they will go 72-10.
Let me be the one to tell you that none of this will happen.
I know, I know, you are already probably yelling at your computer thinking if I'm some kind of mental hospital escapee.
Let me clear this up, I'm not.
I'm also not going to lie and say that I think Miami will do amazing this year. I honestly don't.
Miami's story will be the same as Cleveland's. They're always going to look like the best team in the NBA, but come postseason, they are going to crash and burn. And I got a lot of reasons to back up my opinion.
First and foremost, the team has absolutely ZERO chemistry. The only players who have played together on the team right now are Lebron and Big Z, and Wade and Haslem, and Big Z and Haslem are way past their prime.
A team with no chemistry cannot honestly believe that they will make a splash in the postseason. It just cannot be done.
Take the Phoenix Suns for example. They were a talented team, but not a team you would expect to make the Conference Finals, but they accomplished it with chemistry.
Second, the Suns had something Miami does not, a bench and depth.
Once you take a look at the bench, it is all players on the wrong side of 30, save a few.
That brings us to reason number 3. The team is made mostly of veterans with little left in them. Sure, James, Wade, and Bosh aren't old but, let's face the facts, the rest of the team is.
No one should expect much of the veterans, as they will not deliver much. Also, given their age, they are more prone to injuries and will be limited in minutes. They just won't be able to keep up with young teams like Sacramento and Portland.
And my fourth and final reason, having three stars used to taking a majority of their teams shots does not make a championship team. The only way to satisfy all their trigger fingers is too play with 3 balls, just for them. I don't think the NBA is going to allow three balls to be in play for them, and another for the rest of the players.
Until the team can create some more chemistry, get rid of the veterans, lure in young talent, and make sure Erik Spoelstra can keep the three stars egos in check, Miami is going nowhere.
