Top Recruits Of 2011, That Have The Potential To Make It To The NBA.

Marcus ThompsonSep 24, 2010

Here are who I think the top 10 college recruits for 2011. This includes junior college athletes who I am sure big schools will be taking a look at this upcoming season. All of these guys if they continue to work at their game and stay on the grind can definitely make it to the league. All of these young fellas should be exciting to watch next year on their respective platforms.

SG. Austin Rivers, Winter Park High. Winter Park, Fl 6'4" , 189lbs

1 of 10

One of the best offensive packages you will see from a potential recruit, almost unstoppable when he gets in the triple threat position. Solid shooter, has about 29 feet range, so he can get it done from deep but also is a pretty good mid range shooter as well. Very intelligent can counter act defensive schemes. Can improve his left hand does not attack the left side of the floor nearly as often he does the right. Often passes up free lanes if it involves going left. As any kid on this level, he can improve on the defensive end, Austin could move his feet better and stay in front, but often does not and bails guys out  with fouls or missed steal attempts. I think Austin with what he showed over the summer is top of the list, he posses the best offensive package and can be coached in areas where his game needs improvement.

PG. Blake Nash Arizona. 6'1" 185 Lbs Williston State CC

2 of 10

Blake has a very good handle, good at making decisions in transition.  He has the quickest pull up I have seen, can get the jumper off with various fakes and hesitation moves. Can see the court understands the flow of an offense. Blake needs to improve overall quickness and explosiveness in order to be great at the next level. Blake is an O.K defender, always aware of ball positioning, and defensive spacing. He has already spent a year at JUCO which gives him an advantage with experience and maturity. Can come in and produce.

PG. Marquis Teague Pike High School. Indianapolis, IN 6'2" 175lbs

3 of 10

Terrific in the open court can get to any spot on the court at will. Can finish with either hand, very good at finishing in traffic. Good distributor and has good court vision, Marquis really understands when to give the ball up. Inconsistent from 3, must improve range.  Needs to read defensive schemes better, seems to make poor decision when opposing team is not playing straight man to man, Fun to watch.

SF. Mike Gilchrist St. Patrick High School. Somerdale, NJ 6'7" 210lbs

4 of 10

Very Athletic! Has a consistent overall game. Most effective when slashing or driving to the basket can finish at the rim, but has a pretty good mid range game. Mike is a strong rebounder; he can board with the big boys.  Competitive has the desire to win. Lacks a 3 point shot, definitely will need to improve upon this going forward to the next level. Needs to improve shooting mechanics overall, right now his athletic abilities make up for this but will be exposed going forward. If he had just a couple more solid fundamental skill sets he could be number 1 overall in my opinion.

PF/SF. Quincy Miller Westchester Country Day School. Chicago, IL 6'9" 210lbs

5 of 10

Very skilled big man, that’s capable of playing some wing, which makes him one of the more versatile recruits. Can step out and knock down the three as well as finish strong at the rim. Quincy can play with his back to the basket. If he is going to  make a serious attempt at playing more wing at the next level , he definitely needs to get quicker, he will need to add more post moves and get stronger as well to be an overall threat and an impossible guard.  Although for a big he can shoot the 3, he needs to be more efficient behind the arc.

SF. Michael Craig Phoenix, AZ. Arizona Western CC 6'4" 215lbs

6 of 10

Michael is a bulky undersized wingman, but can flat out play. He goes hard on offense and defense gives 110% every time he goes out on the floor. Michael can make it to the next level just off shier work ethic. Ok ball handler, can knock down the three, needs to improve mid range game though. He can finish at the rim and STRONG. Real worker can play at any level because of he is coach-able and has great work ethic.

SF/PF. Anthony Davis Perspectives Charter School Chicago, IL. 6'10" 200lbs

7 of 10

Anthony is another very versatile big man with tremendous upside. He is a stat filler can affect the game in so many ways. He is one of the few who can really get it done on the defensive end. Anthony is very good rebounder, great at attacking the rim, a poster kid waiting to happen.  Needs to develop muscle and strength, and needs experience.

PG. Matthew Thompson Cleveland, OH Northern Iowa Area CC 5'9" 170lbs

8 of 10

Matthew is amazingly athletic.  The fastest I have seen with a basketball in a while. He is a great decision maker in the open court. Matt can finish with either hand strong at the rim, on the break or in traffic amongst the trees. Good at orchestra-ting the offense and getting others involved.  For his size he is very strong and a decent defender. Needs to improve mid range game, has good range on his shot but a streaky shooter. Matt needs to make shooting consistent to thrive at the next level.

Check out some youtube footage:

SF. Tola Akomolafe Mesa CC 6'6"

9 of 10

Very athletic strong finisher, major hops. Tola is a strong athletic wing, great at slashing and finishing. An area he needs to improve is ball handling and jump shooting.

Nice Dunk:

SF. LeBryan Nash Lincoln High School. Dallas, TX 6'7" 230lbs

10 of 10

Very physical wing player as well as athletic, which makes up a very good game. Match-up problem for any team, has a low post game to go with is great slashing abilities. He can finish strong in traffic often finishing with AND 1 plays. Has some perimeter skills, can knock down the  3 or short jump shot in the lane. The word is Lebryan's attitude often seems un-enthused despite great talent and physical make up, needs to mature.
