Miami Heat Taking Flight Early, Will Hold Training Camp at Eglin Air Force Base

Sean GrimmSep 19, 2010

First reported by various sources a few days ago, the Miami Heat announced they would be journeying to Florida's panhandle and the city of Fort Walton Beach for their training camp at the end of September.

The training camp will take place on Eglin Air Force base and the team will be staying on site at a hotel located on the base itself.

"The Miami Heat is extremely humbled to train in an environment where service, sacrifice, and discipline are the norm," stated Riley in regards to the team's decision.

Riley also stated the players will be happy to practice at a site where men and women prepare to defend our freedom every day.

Not only does this decision provide respect for the men and women that serve this country, but it also gives the Heat players a much needed break from the spotlight that they most certainly will constantly find themselves in once they return to South Beach.

Head coach Erik Spoelstra was pleased with the decision, acknowledging the fact that the team will get to work together without much distraction from the outside world.

The less distractions for this team in training camp, the better. This completely reconstructed Heat lineup will need to stay focused and work hard in order to gel together and get things working smoothly before their first game together.

Training camp begins on September 28th and concludes on October 3rd. The Heat will then travel back to South Florida to open up their preseason with a game against the Detroit Pistons.
