Nate Robinson: Looking to Have a Much Bigger Impact on the Season
“The really short guy who can dunk” was all Nate Robinson was labeled as before he was traded to the Boston Celtics.
Not to mention in some NBA fans' eyes, he was viewed as a head case and a trouble maker. But I have always been a fan of Robinson’s game and was excited to hear he was a Celtic.
Danny Ainge and Doc Rivers knew what they were getting when they traded Eddie House for Nate Robinson. The key was to get Robinson to do all the things he is capable of, but within the Celtics system.
When the playoffs started, Robinson showed the entire world that he is more than a high leaper. During Game Six of the Eastern Conference Semifinals vs. the Orlando Magic, Robinson came into the game after Rajon Rondo landed awkwardly on his back.
From the moment he came on to the court, he brought energy and a little bit of swagger, but meanwhile he was an efficient scoring machine while staying within the Celtics system.
During those few minutes, he solidified his spot as the backup point guard and fan- favorite.
This year will be different, after the signings of Delonte West and rookie Avery Bradley, the Celtics are more prepared at the backup point guard spot and Robinson’s role as the backup point guard is at stake.
But I do not think a little competition will scare off Robinson, if anything it will bring the best out of him.
Before he was traded, this was the same player who scored 41 points off the bench after not playing for 10-plus games. Robinson is also the player who average 17.8 points per game off the bench with the Knicks in 2008.
Robinson’s energetic bench play will keep the Celtics competitive as well as keep the fans into the game.
Celtics fans know for a fact that other teams hate Nate Robinson. They should, he’s loud, cocky, and seems to be everywhere at once, but as a Celtic fan we love his energy and the fact that he never sits down during the game.
I am looking forward to seeing him full throttle for a whole season and helping the Celtics make a run to win the title.
