Cog Hill Field Impressive as the Best Battle for the Fed Ex Cup: Fantasy Picks

Thomas MorelandSep 7, 2010

The third round of the Fed Ex Cup playoffs get under way this week at the Cog Hill Golf and Country Club located in Dubsdread Lermont, Illinois.

Matt Kuchar, Charley Hoffman, Steve Stricker, Jason Day, Luke Donald, Martin Laird, Ernie Els, Hunter Mahan, Geoff Ogilvy, and Justin Rose are your top ten Fed Ex Ranked Players.

Everyone on this list has been playing well lately, except for Ernie Els.

After Cog Hill, where Tiger Woods is the defending champion, the points will be reset for the Players Championship, opening the door for a few more players getting the chance to win the coveted $10,000,000 dollar prize.

In this top ten list, Geoff Ogilvy has the best chance to grab Player of the Year honors if he can win once more in the next two weeks.

If Kuchar, Hoffman, Stricker, or any of the other top ten players win this week, it would be quite an edge on grabbing the whole pie with a good finish, say top six at the Players.

Jim Furyk, also with a win, could cement Player of the Year with a third Tour Victory.

If someone else should win this week at Cog Hill, they would need to follow that up with a very high finish at the Players Championship the following week.

Here are my Yahoo Fantasy Picks this week:

In the A Player position, I will use Steve Stricker, with 16 tournaments played and zero missed cuts.

This is the last time I can use Steve Stricker this fantasy golf season as it is the tenth time I have employed Mr. Stricker this year.

His back-up this week will be Ernie Els who needs to grab a win for Player of the Year just like Geoff Ogilvy each with two Tour Wins this year.

In the B Players spots, I will use Charley Hoffman who is obviously playing great, and Adam Scott who looks very sharp lately, with the back-ups being Jim Furyk needing a third win this season for Player of the Year consideration, and Dustin Johnson.

The C player spot is an easy choice as you must take Matt Kuchar now every chance you get.

Brandt Snedeker will be Kuchar's back-up.

This is a first as I have left Tiger Woods entirely off my fantasy roster, probably a bit late as I clung on to hope he would grab a win somewhere this season. Watch him win this week now.

In Yahoo Fantasy Golf,  I slightly improved from the dismal place I've fallen to reach 4,928 points. I am stuck in the 82nd percentile and in the position of 27,873.

I have really fallen down in the last four weeks and hope for the last two weeks to be decent.

Only one Yahoo expert is still trailing me, as all the others have surged ahead this last month.

Matt Romig 15,006; 5,099 points

Eric Planer 21,315; 5,015 points

Greg Vara 25,720; 4,957 points

Michael Arkush 46,796; 4,611 points

Thomas [NFL Mikee] Moreland 27,873;  4,928 points.
