7-20-10 Z-Cap: D-Backs 3 Mets 2
It looked as though the Mets were coming out with avengance to start the night. Back to back singles by Jose Reyes and Angel Pagan put runners on 1st and 2nd for David Wright. Wright proceeded to line out to third and Carlos Beltran followed up with a walk. The bases were loaded, Ike Davis was up, and there was 1 out. The opportunity to leave last night’s game behind presented itself even earlier than anyone could have imagined, yet the Mets failed to capitalize once again. Arizona’s rookie Barry Enright struck out Davis and Jason Bay to end the inning……..and made it look incredibly easy, a sign of things to come.
On the night the team managed to go 0-3 with men in scoring position and are now just 1-9 through the first 2 games of the series in such situations. Our chronicling of the team’s struggles with RISP is borderline obsessive, we know, but it’s only because the numbers are absolutely staggering. In the past 9 games the Mets are 7-61 (.115 avg).

The Mets may not have scored in the 2nd, but you have to wonder how quickly things could have gotten out of hand had R.A. not immediately responded and shut down Arizona in their half of the inning.
