Five Teams That Vince Carter Could Help Next Season
Now that the Orlando Magic have resigned J.J. Redick the question is what will happened with Vince Carter? Will he become Redick's backup and play the 6th man role for the Magic or will the Magic trade Carter? There are a lot of good fits out there for Vince Carter and he can still help some teams. Personally I don't think the Magic should trade Carter he is still a much better player than Redick and should be starting over him. So it would be a bad move if the Magic decided to make Carter the 6th man, if Carter could not lead this team to a title when he was starting then there is no way J.J. Redick will.
But if GM Otis Smith wants to trade Carter he should do it to a place where Vince can still win. Although Carter can be a good 6th man he probably wouldn't want that role, he can still score, rebound and pass the ball better then a lot of guards out there so there is no reason he should be a 6th man. Last season Carter averaged career lows of 16.6 ppg and 3.1 apg in 31 mpg, a lot of teams out there can still use a guy that could give them that and yes Vince could still start for them.
So here are the five best fits for Vince Carter next season if he is traded:
5.) Utah Jazz:
The Jazz bounced back well by picking up Al Jefferson when Carlos Boozer signed with the Bulls, but sharpshooter Kyle Korver is gone and Deron Williams still wants more help. Vince Carter would fit in well with this team because all he would have to do is score, Williams could get Carter the ball and Vince could give this team around 20 ppg if healthy. But one thing that just doesn't seem right is Jerry Sloan coaching Vince Carter, that could blow up if Carter plays lazy and gets shot happy. If Vince gets his head right he could make the Jazz a much better team and they would be up there as one of the best teams in the West
4.) San Antonio Spurs:
The Spurs could really use Carter in the starting line up for one last run at a title. He could still have big games and would take a lot of pressure off of Tim Duncan and Tony Parker, Ginobli would be the 6th man and if Carter could give the Spurs around 18 ppg they would be that much deadlier. Check this lineup out: PG-Tony Parker, SG-Vince Carter, SF-Richard Jefferson, PF-Tim Duncan, C-Antonio McDyess. It isn't the youngest lineup in the league but it is a lineup that can get it done for a season and there is no way any team in the league even the Western Conference rival Lakers or the super team in Miami wants to face this team in a 7 game series.
3.) Cleveland Cavaliers:
There has been some talk in Cleveland about Allen Iverson possibly joining the team and replacing Mo Williams, why not blow the whole team up and add Vince Carter to that back court as well. Even though they have gotten older I would still pay to see Allen Iverson and Vince Carter on the same team. Weather the Cavs sign Iverson or not Vince Carter would fit in very well with this team, he would start at the 2 spot and could get a lot of shots, minutes and touches. If they don't pick up A.I. Carter would score a lot of points and could be the go to guy for the Cavs, he still has the ability to lead certain teams to the playoffs and Cleveland is probably the best fit for Carter if he still wants to be the number 1 option.
2.) New York Knicks:
The Knicks are looking for a player that could form a 1-2 punch for one season with Amare Stoudemire before they pursue Carmelo Anthony next season. Carter could be that player for a season, in Mike D'Antoni's offense he would thrive and could take as many shots as he wants. Carter could score a good 20 ppg for this team and with Amare the Knicks could do some damage. He would give them a go to guy in the clutch that can still take some games over, Vince could be a great fit for the Knicks next season.
1.) Chicago Bulls:
The Bulls made an impact this off season and are going to be on the best teams in the East next season they didn't pick up LeBron, Wade or Bosh but they got Carlos Boozer and they also got sharpshooter Kyle Korver. Derrick Rose will transform into one of the best point guards in the league next season and the Bulls are going to be a dangerous team. Add Vince Carter to that mix and have him start with Korver coming off the bench and Carter could give this team an all around shooting guard that can score and hit big shots in the clutch. Carter would bring leadership and a lot of scoring to the Bulls, Derrick Rose and Vince could be one of the best back courts in the league and the Bulls would be a favorite to win the East.
There are going to be a lot of questions about Vince Carter in the next couple of weeks and months but there is a high chance he could be traded to his fourth team. Carter can still get it done and would certainly these five teams improve.
