5 Reasons LeBron James & Miami Will Exit NBA Playoffs Early

Todd JacobsJul 14, 2010

LeBron James and the other two thirds of the Miami trio consisting of Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh have set themselves up for failure as they worked the Miami faithful into a frenzy at their pep rally. During the Miami Heat pep rally LeBron James promised they would win the NBA Championship not just in 2011 but well into the future. The word NBA dynasty was thrown around during the entire pep rally and one thing is certain, the rest of the NBA teams were watching and preparing to play the self anointed 2011 NBA Champions.

Miami Heat Introduces Miami Thrice to a Packed Arena (Reason 1).

With fanfare and bravado on full display in front of their Miami fans, it is obvious this can only end one way. Horribly. With all three free agents, LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh, on display for their fans, the media and the players themselves have all but presumed they will be playing for and winning the NBA Championship every season.

There is the little detail of having to play 82 games against NBA players that have been watching this process. The courting of LeBron James and the guarantees being issued in Miami must be getting under the skin of other NBA stars and contenders. Do not expect the rest of the NBA teams in the league to roll over for King Lebron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh.

Assembling the Most Talented Players in the NBA is Not Going to Win a Title (Reason 2).

The Boston Celtics set the precedent several years ago, when they assembled three of the best players and won an NBA title with Kevin Garnett, Paul Pierce and Ray Allen. The first year Boston assembled the three stars on one team, they went on to win the NBA title. Although they did return to NBA Finals two years later, Boston has only won one title with the threesome.

As the Miami Heat fans and Miami Heat management award themselves the NBA Championship for the next four years, they need to take a look at other NBA teams and baseball teams such as the Yankees and Red Sox that assembled free agent talent over the years and failed more often than succeeded in the post season.

A Less Talented Supporting Cast Will Create Issues Once the NBA Playoffs Begin (Reason 3).

Yes, the Miami Heat has three very talented players in LeBron James, Wade and Bosh but now there are roster spots to fill and not much money to go around. This may not be a noticeable problem early in the NBA season but once the season comes to a close and LeBron James and his Miami Thrice partners are forced to stay in games late, it will become an issue.

If Miami does not get the number one seed in the NBA's Eastern Conference, their season will already be deemed a complete failure. Miami and LeBron James have set the bar so incredibly high that nothing short of Pat Riley's NBA Championship three-peat will suffice.

Pressure Will Take A Toll on Miami Having to Play Regular Season Games Like an NBA Playoff Game (Reason 4).

LeBron James and Chris Bosh have never had the pressure of expectations of winning an NBA title every season. Wade has a ring from early in his career and he does know the pressure but both LeBron James and Bosh have never been surrounded by elite NBA players and expected to win titles.

The target will be firmly on the Miami threesomes back for the entire season. LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh will have the pressure to win as if they have already won an NBA title. The pressure will get to this team about midway through the season and how they respond to it will determine their future NBA destiny.

Injuries Happen & If One Player Goes Down There Will be No Cap Room (Reason 5).

Injuries are a reality in the NBA and if any one of these players suffers any type of injury and must sit during the season for any length of time, Miami could drop many critical games in the interim. Bosh misses on average, 10-13 games a year, with the exception of 2004 when he missed only one game. Although Wade has remained healthy for the last two seasons, he missed over 30 games in successive seasons, 2006 and 2007.

LeBron James is the healthiest of the trio but he too has never played in every NBA game in a season. The point of looking at games played is simple, all three players will have to play in all 82 games and log a lot of minutes in the regular season. Once the NBA Playoffs begin they will be worn down by having to play at a high level during the regular season.
