The Heat Is On: Predicting Miami's 2010-2011 Regular Season Record

Andrew PierluissiJul 12, 2010

LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh are the NBA's new big story. Throughout the league's history, plenty of championship teams, dating back to the '60s, have relied on what has been traditionally called “The Big Three.”

These teams have had the luxury of having three superstars play together for a common goal. More times than others, they have emerged victorious.

Although it is a good recipe for success, having three studs on one team can also be a hinderance. Building around these types of players is often a challenge, especially if the chemistry is not right.

The newly formed “Big Three” is somewhat different than other trios from the past. This trio basically built itself, dating back to 2004.

They dreamed and planned to play together, and their vision came through, against all odds, with a perfect opportunity to do so in Miami.

This trio took a pay cut to play together and obtain multiple championships for each other. And these three are not the 30-some-year-old versions of former superstars.

How the Miami Heat perform in the 2010-2011 NBA season is reason for speculation among plenty of NBA analysts.  Some might have them as an above average team that will struggle to find an identity, and adapt to each player's style.

Others might foresee this team coming out of the gate as prepared as they can be. Other less positive thinkers might see this team as a potential catastrophe.

The truth is, Miami's management is doing an excellent job putting the right pieces around LeBron James, Dwayne Wade, and Chris Bosh.

Additions like Mike Miller, Udonis Haslem, and possibly Jason Williams, Juwan Howard, and Matt Barnes are shaping this team in the right direction.

We are also witnesses to how playing alongside a trio of this caliber can impact young point guards, like it did for Rajon Rondo.

The Eastern Conference, although slightly better than last year with the emergence of the Chicago Bulls and Milwaukee Bucks, still has plenty of teams that will be right in the lottery again next season.

And even in the Western Conference, plenty of teams are clearly in rebuilding mode. A fantastic regular season record is not out of the question for the Miami Heat.

In a year bound to be full of spectacular match-ups, emotional showdowns, and incredible plays, I have the Miami Heat making history.

Here is a call to the record book of the NBA. The Miami Heat will soon be on their way to a record-breaking 70 win season in their first run with the new “Big Three.”
