Washington Wizards Win As John Wall Scores 24 in Summer League Debut

Shae CroninJul 11, 2010

Although it was only summer league play, the Washington Wizards showed a few things for us fans to get excited about.

JaVale McGee came into the team’s first of five summer league games with added bulk and a surprising inch added to his height (bringing his program height to over seven-feet).

McGee finished the game with 21 points and 13 rebounds, showing signs of agility and his potential on the defensive side of the ball.

With all eyes on the league’s first-overall draft pick, John Wall teased the audience with displays of flash and potential while trying to shake off some early jitters.

Wall finished the game with 24 points, two rebounds, eight assists, two steals, and eight turnovers.

A majority of Wall’s turnovers were dismissed by assistant coach Sam Cassell, explaining that many of the 19-year-old’s turnovers came from his attempts at creating plays on offense rather than lack of focus.

We may not like the stat line of John Wall including eight turnovers, but patience is a must with this kid. His ability to run the floor and create in open space is electrifying and his quickness is second to none.

When Wall gets the ball on a fast break, you naturally sit-up to the edge of your seat just to see what will happen next.

John Wall connected with JaVale McGee a handful times with alley-oop passes that can only lead Wizards fans to believe that there will be plenty more of those in the future.

Raymar Morgan, a rookie from Michigan State looking to make the squad, had a decent game and finished with eight points and seven rebounds.

The Wizards next game is tomorrow night at 10 pm (EST) against the LA Clippers.
