Remember Lebron, Glory Is Fleeting!

Kurt MewsJul 8, 2010

"The victorious General rides at the end of the parade on a chariot being showered by flowers and cheers, next to him rides a slave who silently reminds him, "Glory is fleeting."  The Movie, Patton

Lebron's announcement to sign with The Heat, while heartbreaking to Clevelanders is being reacted with disgust and even hatred, from all corners of the Buckeye State.  Simply go to a Cleveland or Ohio web site and read for yourself.  Fans are even throwing rocks and his bill board in the Cleveland area. Lebron who desperately wants a ring, recently signed a lucrative deal with The Miami Heat. It just wasn't about money, but teaming with superstars like Bosh and Wade, Lebron's dream and goal is that he can win the NBA Title there!  The Heat now appear to be the team to beat, but that's not the point.  Whether Lebron hoists one, three or five titles and own rings, he' just disconnected himself from a city, area, home town and state that embraced him and loved him and saw him as a sign of hope.

Living in IL, growing up in Cleveland, the long suffering "Mistake by the Lake" city had to endure decades of pain and futility; The drive, the fumble, the extra inning 7th game loss in the World Series, no titles since '64, and the list can go on, but none of this hurts or fills one with as much disgust as when one of your own turns his back and heads with strangers for personal glory, yes, I'm talking about you Lebron.

Whether Miami wins or not, whether Lebron gets a title, multiple titles, gets a ring or multiple rings, Lebron forsook love and dedication for his personal glory. What Lebron and many self centered, empty souled sports stars don't understand that glory is fleeting.  Let me share two examples;

1.  Born before the days of Bob Feller, never watching him play, I've come to admire him.  This man is still in the hearts and minds of Cleveland fans and ME!  That Lebron is priceless. Bob Feller played over 60 years ago.   Traveling across I-80 in Iowa I'm tempted to go to Feller's museum as I pass by a sign advertising his museum in the cornbelt of Iowa!  He gets love, respect and admiration to this day! One day Lebron, you might come to realize the treasure that is compared to your 'glory!'

2.  Watching the Lakers hoist their recent trophy, many great old Lakers were there to see that glorious moment.  Many people asked, "Who's that on stage?"  No matter how great you were in your day, you will be forgotten, but loyalty is embraced and love and cities and fans remember that.

You see Lebron, after years you will be forgotten by Miami, they may remember the dynasty that you may have been a part of, but you will be forgotten, never embraced like Feller in Cleveland or Jordan in Chicago or Magic in L.A.!

Glory is fleeting Lebron. One day while you may have your rings and titles, but you will never be taken in Miami as you would of been in Cleveland and you will have to live with that and in the end, you may come to see that rings and titles, like your shallow 'glory' is fleeting!!
