LeBron James Decision: From Hero to Villain With One Decision

Kelsey GivensJul 8, 2010

The heart of Cleveland has been ripped out and stomped on by someone who they viewed as a hero. The beloved LeBron James has decided to sign with the Miami Heat next season, and has become a villain in the eyes of Cleveland.

It took less than one sentence for James to become one of the most hated athletes in all of Cleveland history.

His decision to leave Cleveland has denied the Cavaliers a chance to go for a championship game next season and has taken away from them not only one of the greatest athletes in the history of Cleveland, but the history of the NBA as well.

Many Clevelanders now view James as a traitor. As they see it, he turned his back on them right in the time where they needed him the most.

Many were predicting that the Cavaliers could make it far, if not all the way, in the NBA playoffs and finals next season if James stayed with the team.

The way the fans of Cleveland see it, their hero turned his back on them, which makes him a villain and a traitor. And now they plan to turn their back on him.

In response to this announcement, many fans cried, screamed and were at a loss of words as they learned their star player would be leaving their team.

The most extreme response to this announcement has been the burning of James’ jersey. There have been several videos of fans burning their No. 23 jerseys.

This has to be hard for James to watch, as he watches himself fall from the top in Cleveland.

In a time span of an hour and one ESPN special, James went from being a hero and star of a major city, to a traitor and a villain who many fans have no plans on continuing to support.
