Confessions of a Non-NBA Fan: LeBron and the Heat Will Keep Me Watching
Moments ago LeBron James decided that he was going to play with super tandem Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh on the Miami Heat. You might ask, "What are they pointing at in that picture?"
I'll tell you they are pointing at huge ratings, new fans, and a lot of championships.
Everyone said it would be best for the league if he went to New York.
They said James in the biggest market is what the NBA needs. Well they were wrong, very wrong.
I sit here as a 20-year-old who has never been an NBA fan. Basketball on the high school and college level is something that is enjoyable.
It may have something to do with me living in Pittsburgh. We have never had an NBA team and frankly we have never been close to having one since 1989.
It may also have something to do with the fact that I am too young to really recall the greatness of Michael Jordan, Dennis Rodman, and Scottie Pippen.
Now my generation has their Jordan, Rodman, and Pippen in the form of Wade, Bosh, and James. This is the team that will dominate the Eastern Confrence and go to the finals and win two or three titles.
With James going to Miami there is now an all star team on the court every night. Very rarely do you have the number one, four, and five pick from the same draft on the court together.
This is the first time that I feel there is a team on the court that I am going to want to tell my kids about when I am old. This is the type of team that comes along once in a lifetime.
This is the kind of team that our kids and grandkids think “Man I would have loved to watch that team in their prime.” We are lucky that LeBron decided to join Wade and Bosh.
Will this team be the 90’s Bulls? Probably not, they were one of, if not the, best team ever. This team does provide us with something we have not had in a long time.
A team full of superstars who wanted this and who are willing to give up some stats to win titles. A lot of titles.
It isn’t a mistake that they all signed their contracts just long enough so they would all be free agents at the same time. Now that they are a super group, go out on the court and deliver.
