LeBron James: South Beach Bound? LBJ Linked To Hotel Room In Miami
Looks like the suspense regarding tonight's anticipated one-hour "Lebron's Destination" special on ESPN might be close to over.
US Magazine reported that James has "rented six cabanas at the W Hotel on South Beach this weekend to celebrate his decision". The story was reported as having two sources backing up the claim.
If accurate it would be hard to imagine that LeBron would be coming down to party on South Beach just days after turning down playing for the Heat.
Still something worries me that all these rumors coming out now could only spell bad news for Miami and its fans. Either this whole free agency period has been perpetually predictable despite all the hype, or we're in for a rude awakening come 9 p.m. tonight.
Way I see it, ESPN wouldn't be leaking all of these LeBron to Miami innuendos if it wanted the best ratings possible for the one hour show they have agreed to broadcast.
On the other hand, maybe ESPN is just tired of getting berated throughout this entire process for lousy reporting and constant flip flopping. Thus in an effort to save face, the network may be giving out this insinuation so that they may come out after the show and say we predicted it the day before the special. This would help restore some form of credibility for their so called "NBA Insiders". It certainly wouldn't hurt the likes of Chris Broussard and Ric Bucher, who have been ripped apart by fans for making one erroneous report after another and never offering any substantiated reports with bona fide sources.
Six hours to go and this can still go so many different ways. The one certainty we have is that whatever team LeBron picks will benefit greatly. Not just would that fortunate franchise get arguably the best player in the league, they would also keep three teams within their conference from getting stronger.
