LeBron James "Decision" On ESPN Should Be A Win Win Scenario
A big fuss has been made over the last couple days since LeBron James stated that he would announce his future playing destination on live television. Comments have ranged from "why does he need an hour special" to he is an " attention seeking diva."
My opinion is that this is sheer brilliance. LeBron doesn't need to do this on ESPN but by doing so he is truly serving a better purpose. Sure it's a big show and with everyone running around it does seem to resemble a circus more than the NBA.
Still beyond the camera's and bright lights tonight, what one needs to take from this is that as much as a couple million dollars might be making its way from the pocket books of rich networks and other companies and into the account of The Boys and Girls Club.
All of the people advertising during the one hour special were looking to capitalize on the large audience that will be tuning in and be captivated by James choice on live T.V. Well now LeBron made sure that some of this hype and drama would benefit someone other than the league, ESPN and/or advertisers.
Another reason why I see this as a smart move by LeBron and his camp is that it gives him the perfect stage on which to express his love for both his fans in North East Ohio and the Cavaliers organization. If he is leaving and breaking Cleavland's heart the least he can do is take ten minutes on a nationwide forum in order to convey how painful and gut wrenching it was for him to decide to part ways with the only home region he has ever known.
There are many altruistic individuals in the world but certainly not enough. This gesture by LeBron may be little more than a public relations effort set up by the people in his camp. Still news of the decision was going to be broken somewhere and the subsequent interview was going to be conducted so what better way to do it then by letting it benefit a group of kids that can sure use the money to fund their programs.
At the end of the day even if your team doesn't land James you should still take comfort in that someone has won as a result of this one hour show....that being the kids.
