NBA Free Agents 2010: Dwyane Wade Using Drama Just for Documentary?
If reports are true, and Dwyane Wade is filming a free-agency documentary, then that answers a lot.
There was a strong sense, a very strong sense, that Wade would re-sign with the Heat. He talked about loyalty, he talked about his relationship with the Heat organization.
He talked about his plan to recruit other free agents to Miami, he talked with LeBron James and Chris Bosh, he talked with the Chicago Bulls—a lot.
Boy, he's done a lot of talking (compared to James and Bosh), but his actions don't reflect all his talk about being dedicated to his team.
Once July 1 struck, he hopped on a plane to visit other possible suitors.
The Heat didn't worry too much. He was just exploring his options, and he'd be back shortly.
Then, Wade met twice with the Bulls, which definitely put the Heat in panic mode.
Chicago, Wade's home, might have genuinely touched him and given him a change of heart.
Chicago is where Wade grew up and became a basketball stud in high school. It's where he has family ties, where he bought his mom a church and where he supported charities.
After divorce issues with his estranged wife, he wants to focus on "being a good father."
His two sons reside in Chicago, and it'd be easier for him to do his second job: being a dad.
That's all very touching.
It's exactly what many people want to see in a professional athlete, the human aspect.
It makes for a great story—in a documentary.
After days of indecision and struggle in choosing between family and career (or both if possible), how does Wade decide?
Oh the drama, what great stuff to make a documentary more compelling.
If he goes to Chicago, he'll be seen as a loving, family man.
If he returns to Miami, he'll be loved even more by fans for heroically saving the franchise from utter destruction.
Then again, I could be wrong.
The events leading up to his decision might be surreal.
Just by looking at that photo, I do believe that Wade honestly loves his sons.
Then again, why all the drama?
