Stoudemire, Parker, and Lee. The Core That Will Bring Success To The Knicks?

Matt RavidaJul 3, 2010

The Knicks have been very busy these past couple of days meeting with as many of the top tier free agents possible.

Trying to persuade them all to sign with the Knicks. Well it seems as if they have done so already with Amar`e Stoudemire.

So with that being said, I am going to state who I think will be the best possible team that the Knicks can put on the floor come next season, while being realistic.

Amar`e Stoudemire

Some time today or this weekend, Amar`e is going to sign a five-year $100 million  deal or a max contract with the Knicks. It is almost set in stone that Amar`e will be wearing a Knick jersey this upcoming season.

Tony Parker

Rumors have been swirling that Parker is very close to be traded to the big apple.

In theory it makes a lot of sense. Not only is Parker an All-Star caliber point guard, but he is a player that does not demand the ball in order to take 20 shots a game.

But do not get me wrong, he will still get his fair share of shots. Also, Amar`e and Parker have both expressed their desire to play together. So that could be an added bonus in the Knicks favor.

The Knicks could offer up Wilson Chandler, a future second round draft pick, and cash consideration for Parker.

It gives the San Antonio Spurs a young small forward to replace Richard Jefferson and a non-guaranteed salary with the second rounder ( the Spurs always find gems in the second rounds).

The cash will give them a bit more cap relief as well.

David Lee

This re-signing depends on what they do with Amar`e.

The Knicks could play Amar`e at his natural power forward position, or at the center position. Either way, Stoudemire or Lee can play both, so it all depends on how coach Mike D`Antoni will play.

But I just think that David Lee is too good of a talent not to have on the Knicks roster anymore.

Kyle Lowry

People might be scratching their heads and be saying, 'who' ?

But yes, Kyle Lowry could be a great option for the Knicks.

The point guard class is so weak this offseason, and arguably the best available point guard, Steve Blake, signed with the Lakers.

I think Lowry would be the best back-up to Tony Parker the Knicks can sign right now.

The Knicks are all about saving money, and if they do get Parker they would not waste more money on say, Raymond Felton or Luke Ridnour.

Besides, Felton wants to be a starter, and well, with Parker on the roster, that is just not happening.

And Ridnour will demand more money than what Lowry.

Lowry has averaged 9 points and 5 assists in 25 minutes of action over his five-year career.

Ryan Gomes

If Wilson Chandler was to get traded in the Tony Parker deal, they will need someone to replace him.

Well what better way to replace Chandler than with one similar to him ?

Gomes is a very underrated player because he played for the Minnesota Timberwolves the last few seasons.

Gomes is just not a fluke player or a bench player either.

If he's given minutes, he will produce. Gomes has averaged 12 points and 5 rebounds in 29 minutes per game.

Pairing up Gomes and Danilo Gallinari as your two small forwards, could bring two different dimensions to the Knicks that will help greatly.

Brad Miller or Brendan Haywood

This selection at center for the Knicks just depends on which one they can get for the best price.

Both centers are very capable players and can still play. Miller is more of the outside type center, who has the nicer shot of the two, and can stretch the floor by having the ability to shoot some three-pointers.

While Haywood is the big banger down low in the paint that will not back down from anyone.

I personally like Haywood for the Knicks, but I do also think Haywood will be the one of the two that will demand more money.

Anthony Morrow

This kid is so underrated it is unbelievable.

Morrow is simply a stud in the making, and he is already one of the best pure shooters in the league, only two seasons into his career.

He went undrafted in the 2008 Draft, but that did not stop him from scoring the most points in a game by an undrafted player in 2008-09, 37.

Morrow also led the Warriors in three-point shooting as a rookie.

I think that by signing with the Knicks and becoming their starting shooting guard, he will attain all-star type numbers down the road.

Morrow averaged 13 points 5 rebounds and 2 assists last season in 29 minutes of action.

Tony Allen

Tony Allen is a perfect player for any team.

Allen is not a starting caliber two guard, but he's great coming off the bench. Allen is a defensive specialist, something the Knicks have been lacking for years.

By adding Allen, the Knicks are giving themselves a solid, young core at the shooting guard spot with Morrow and Allen.

Morrow will provide the offense, while Allen will come in and defend the opposing team's best player. Allen will still score five or six points a game.

Tyrus Thomas

With Lee and Stoudemire playing both the power forward and center positions, the Knicks will need a true back-up at the four position.

This is where Tyrus Thomas comes in handy. Thomas is a very rare player in this league. He will not complain if he starts or comes off the bench.

He is an explosive energy player that will grab rebounds, and play his butt off for his team.

Having Amar`e, David Lee, Thomas and either Brad Miller or Brendan Haywood, the Knicks would have a very good front court.

Randy Foye

I was contemplating either Foye or J.J. Redick for this position, but  they already have shooters in Gallinari, Morrow, and Toney Douglas.

The Knicks need a type of player that can play multiple positions.

Foye brings an attacking the basket mentality, which they do not have right now at the guard position other than Parker.

Potential Roster

PG: Tony Parker (Kyle Lowry, Toney Douglas)

SG: Anthony Morrow (Randy Foye, Tony Allen)

SF: Danilo Gallinari (Ryan Gomes, Bill Walker)

PF: David Lee (Tyrus Thomas)

C: Amar`e Stoudemire (Brad Miller or Brendan Haywood)

For all those people who will like this roster, yes, I do not have LeBron James, Dwyane Wade and Chris Bosh all on the same team.

It does not matter, because in order for the Knicks to contend, is not to have three superstar ball hogs, but a core of three very good players (Stoudemire, Lee, and Parker). As well, as a supporting cast that can hold their own and still do some damage.
