"Get to The Point" Miami HEAT point guard search

Adam RosenthalJun 29, 2010

Get to the Point!!!

Over the past few years many HEAT fans have complained over the lack of point guard play on the team. Rightfully so, the past few point guards have just not been that good. The one thing that gets me though is the talk of how the heat should pursue a mid-tier (since there is no elite point guards) point guard in free agency.  Do you really feel Raymond Felton or Steve Blake can really get this team past the next level?

Pat Riley has mentioned several times that he is definitely interested in splitting up free agency money to acquire a more rounded roster instead of just one or two elite superstars, and while I don’t think that is a horrible idea, the fact that he might go after one of those point guards is just a waste. The HEAT is better off going after two superstars (LeBron, Bosh, Stoudemire, Johnson, Boozer, Gay, or Dirk) and surrounding them with what they have in Chalmers or maybe Mikhail Torrance since he just signed on to the Las Vegas summer team. Then, they should go after some veterans for the minimum, such as Jamaal Tinsley, Jason Williams, Kenyon Dooling, or Jannero Pargo. The list of free agent point guards that would accept the veteran minimum to play with a superstar roster is likely going to be vast.

Let’s think about this a bit further. Being around HEAT fans all the time, I’ve often heard how Jermaine O’Neal and Michael Beasley needed more touches this past year. If you think that a point guard on a team of Wade and LeBron, Wade and Bosh, or even Wade and Stoudemire will get any more touches then you are out of your mind.

So if you put all this together I can easily envision a lineup of:

1.       Chalmers/Torrance

2.       Wade/Raja Bell

3.       LeBron/ D. Butler (when healthy)

4.       Bosh/ Joel Anthony

5.       Pittman/Magloire/Bosh

What would yours look like?
