Do The Blazers Need Another Center?
Yes. The Blazers need another post for two very important reasons.
One issue is Greg Oden. Greg has great potential and can be a great influence in the Blazer’s postseason run. Oden’s only problem is injuries. Greg missed his entire rookie year due to micro fracture surgery. In the 08-09 season, Oden was ailed by a chipped patella after playing 61 games. In the most recent season, the 09-10 season, Oden was injured yet again on December 5, 2009 after fracturing his left patella.
Being an Oden fan it is hard for me to admit he is injury prone, but to say otherwise would be a lie. For this reason the Blazers need to acquire another big-man presence in the post.
Another reason for needing another post is Joel Przybilla. Joel has been a great building block for the Blazers over the past few seasons. His experience cannot be denied. Joel worked well for the Blazers in their growing stages, but it is time for him to move on. He could help a poor team, like the Nets, grow. Portland is not the best fit for Joel since the Blazers have “outgrown” him.
Portland has a good strong force in Marcus Camby and should not look to move him. Oden and Przybilla on the other hand, could be in danger of losing their jobs in Portland. The Blazers need a fresh, scoring presence in the paint.
Andrew Bynum would be a great example of the “perfect post”. Bynum is a talented, young big man who has outstanding potential. His main weak point is that he is injury prone, much like Oden. Andrew Bynum, if he can stay injury free, will be among the greatest centers ever.
If the Portland Trailblazers can acquire someone of Bynum’s caliber, they could instantly become a strong force in the Western Conference.
