2010 NBA Draft Results: League Is Getting Younger

Most of the early entry participants in the first round of NBA Draft left school for a guaranteed two-year contract with another two-year option that comes along with it.

Everyone expected Kentucky's John Wall to be the top pick for the Washington Wizards.

Four of his ex-college teammates decided to leave the Wildcats, too.

And the funny thing is, they were among the 30 players picked in the first round, breaking a record of four players from the same school selected in the first round.

DeMarcus Cousins has some potential.  I think he's an immature 19-year-old.

I heard he was too fat and out of shape.

Their coach, John Calipari, said on TV that both of them had their moments, and he compared the communication between them as family arguing with each other every once in a while.

Eric Bledsoe and Daniel Orton had no business being picked in the first round.  Patrick Patterson was a safe pick for Houston.

But who is Wes Johnson, Paul George, Elliot Williams and Trevor Booker?

I guess I haven't watched much of them in college.

Neither have I watched Larry Sanders from Virginia Commonwealth.

The Bucks picked him at No. 15.

I guess he'll work out for us.

Oklahoma's Tiny Gallon might not be around to make our team.

Another writer told me at the Bucks' Draft Day event that Gallon may be under investigation for taking money.

That probably meant that he was a "professional" while playing high school and college ball.

But I won't get into rumors that may or may not be true.

To their credit, some of the first round selected players stayed in school at least three years.

Those guys seem mature enough to handle the attention that goes along with the position and the huge increase in salary.

It's a far cry from being on scholarship and eating oodles and noodles when there's lint in your pockets.

I'll tell you one thing:  The older, veteran players on NBA teams won't take any crap from the young bucks under 21-years-old.

The best thing for these young millionaires to do is keep their mouths shut and learn the NBA game inside out.

Or they'll be glued to the bench because they weren't prepared to increase their basketball I.Q. at the highest level.
