I want to be the General Manager of the Los Angeles Clippers. Yes the Clippers. Here’s my open letter to Clippers owner Donald Sterling making my case for the position.

I want to be the General Manager of your Los Angeles Clippers. I will turn this franchise in the right direction making them perennial winners. If given this opportunity, here are the first steps I’d take:

1. I’d trade for Chris Paul of the New Orleans Hornets – The roster has great young talent and bringing in Paul will
1A. If unable to make this draft by the time we go on the clock, I will take a sharp shooting small forward such as Gordon Hayward or Paul George. We will need an outside shooter who can catch the passes out of the post from Blake Griffin and Chris Kaman. A trade down would be a possibility as well.
2. Hire a coach – Here are the candidates I’d like to speak with about leading our team:
-John Calipari – Could help land step 3 of the transformation process.
-Jeff Van Gundy – He’s been successful in different spots and knows how to coach defense that can win a title.
-Byron Scott – If we bring in Chris Paul, we’ll have a coach and point guard who have won together before (in New Orleans) and Scott is familiar with LA and it would help steal some attention from the Lakers.
-Phil Jackson – If the Lakers won’t pay him, we should. He’s won 11 Championships.
3. Assemble pillars of the Los Angeles community to help recruit LeBron James. James wants to win and if he joins this Clippers roster, they become contenders. Stress to him all the opportunities that abound in Los Angeles that can strengthen his global brand that aren’t available in most NBA cities.
4. Work better with the NBDL and use it to help develop more players so they’ll be ready to eventually be contributors in the NBA. We don’t need to use the NBDL as a tryout or to bring up players who will suit up but never play. We need to get guys who after a season there can become part of the playing rotation. There are players in the NBDL who can contribute to our team now as well and they need to be identified and brought up.
5. Finally I’d have a new look for the 2010-11 season. I’d get a new logo and uniforms so it shows there’s a change happening with the Clippers. This will help further energize fans and lead to increased revenue for the franchise.

Let’s get this going! My plan will be a success and all I need now is you to offer me the opportunity to implement it and make you money and deliver Clipper fans a winner! Please contact me via e-mail at matt@machorhino.com as I’m ready to get started immediately and make the moves to get this team on the winning track. I look forward to hearing from you. Thank you for your time and consideration.

Sincerely,

Matt
